Legal Act on the CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM)

CASE 36-2017: Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo

Act on the CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM)

On December 4th, 2017, an International Repudiation Act is made with regards to the CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM), because in the evidence analyzed by the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights it was possible to verify that like the Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, the CBCM has endorsed to keep complicit silence in the face of genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity committed by the State of Myanmar against the Rohingya People. Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, who is a member of CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM), has even come to explicitly support the genocide and the de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and this has generated him to be sentenced for Complicity with Crimes against Peace and Spiritual Fraud.

Therefore, it is confirmed that CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM) constitutes a fraudulent organization that is being complicit in the worst international crimes, such as genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. Therefore, the CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM) organization should stop being a silent accomplice, starting to publicly denounce the crimes committed by the Myanmar State and requesting that the genocidal ones Aung San Suu Kyi, Ming Aung Hlaing and the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee are held accountable and brought to justice, by promoting their investigation and condemnation for international crimes, instead of preparing public visits and support for them on the part of Pope Francis I.

Always with a reconciling spirit,

Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

President and Judge of the International Buddhist Ethics Committee & Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights

Judgment on Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon

CASE 36-2017: Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo

ETHICAL JUDGMENT

Dear Prosecutor, Public Defender, Ambassador and Jury Members of the International Buddhist Ethics Committee (IBEC) and Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights (BTHR), regarding the Case 36-2017 against “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo”, on November 27, 2017, it is hereby recorded that the trial has been concluded to analyze the violation of Human Rights and Buddhist Ethics made by the accused. This case has been carried out as a consequence of the “Ashin Wirathu Case”, the “Myanmar Case” and the “State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Case”.

After the analysis of the presentation of the Case and the validation of proofs, it has proceeded with the vote of 6 members of the Jury, confirming that all of them have voted “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” as Responsible for the serious crimes of Complicity with Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity, Complicity with Crimes against Peace and Spiritual Fraud.

Although the group “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” have been direct witnesses of genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity carried out by the Myanmar government, they have decided to publicly and repeatedly support such criminal and dictatorial government, which constitutes an act of Complicity in serious violation of human rights. Moreover, the group “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” have come to dare to revalidate these crimes through the use of Buddhist concepts, which constitutes Spiritual Fraud, illegally usurping Buddhist Spirituality in order to ethically endorse a criminal and genocidal government, which also implies an absolute betrayal of the teachings of Master Jesus of Nazareth. In this way, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights declares that the group “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” are a spurious, immoral and illegal movement, dedicating rather to politics instead of devoting themselves to carry out spiritual teachings and ethical or humanitarian guidance. Thus, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has implemented the jurisprudence used in the “ISIS Case,” “State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Case,” “National Ecclesiastical Tribunal Case” and “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph Case,” by denouncing presumably religious movements which are dedicated to endorse international crimes as being illegal.

On the other hand, as a result of the public request made by the group “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo”, the fact that the recent visit of Pope Francis I to Myanmar occurred in a climate of acceptance of not mentioning the word “Rohingya”, in addition to agreeing to meet privately with the genocidal military leader Ming Aung Hlaing implies a strong ethical backing to the civil-military dictatorship of Myanmar led by Aung San Suu Kyi. Instead of denouncing the terrible genocide, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity carried out in Myanmar, instead of requesting urgent international intervention, the “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” have decided to provide moral and public support for a genocidal government that is committing the worst international crimes against defenseless men, women and children, also requiring the Vatican to grant omissive silence in the face of genocide. In fact, these acts of omissive silence, and even complicity, on the part of the highest spheres of Catholic Power have been analyzed in other Cases sentenced by the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights, such as the “Argentina Case” and the “Venezuela Case “, where the Vatican has sustained and legitimized criminal governments. However, on this occasion, complicity is as serious as the relationship that the Catholic Power kept with the Nazi Empire. The visit of Pope Francis I to Myanmar in a silence climate before the Rohingya Holocaust, visiting the de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi, the head of the armed forces Ming Aung Hlaing and even the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, results of a gravity as deep as if the Pope had visited Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler and the SS Nazi Squad by simultaneously agreeing not to mention the word “Jew” while the genocide was taking place. In fact, the silence of Pope Pius XII during Nazism, omitting to denounce the extermination against the Jewish People, has been one of the most shameful episodes in the history of Christianity. This new silence before the genocide of the Rohingya People constitutes a new demonstration of the immorality and hypocrisy of the highest spheres of the Catholic Power of Vatican.

The Maitriyana Community offers the accused “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” this Ethical Judgment as a teaching mode on how a Righteous and Adequate Spirituality (Samma-Sasana) truly behaves, which clearly is not practiced by the high world Catholic power, making complicit silence in the face of sexual abuses and murders of minors. The members of this religious group must quickly learn that it is very simple to denounce genocides 50 or 100 years after they have occurred. Genocides, ethnic cleansings and crimes against humanity must be denounced while they occur, trying to stop humanity from doing evil, start doing good and purify its mind. That is the teaching of all the Awakened and Savior Ones (Buddhas-Christs), as taught in the Dhammapada. The messianic task of the Free and Enlightened Beings (Arhats-Bodhisattvas) is to unwaveringly engage with the Salvation of all sentient beings, never agreeing silence with the prevailing political powers. A genuine spiritual master must be willing to self-sacrifice for the Truth, being willing even to be annihilated for denouncing the evils of the world, as did by Master Jesus, who perfectly understood that the expression of the divine is Compassion and Justice.

Because the request submitted to Pope Francis I in order not to mention the word “Rohingya” has been made by both the “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar)” and its leader “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” as well as by the CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE OF MYANMAR (CBCM), this shows that this Case is not a mere individual error but it rather expresses an institutional policy of Complicity with Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity, Complicity with Crimes against Peace and Spiritual Fraud. In addition, it is recalled that complicit silence maintained regarding the genocide against the Rohingya People by the State of Myanmar, under the excuse that this would endanger the Christian minorities of the country, is the same excuse as the complicit silence of the Pope Pius XII during the genocide of the Jewish People by the Nazi Empire, with which a concordat or international pact of support was even signed. Faced with this kind of policies that are complicit in serious violations of human rights by the Catholic Power, it is recalled that Master Jesus never made a pact with the political and economic powers of his time.

The Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights agrees with Father Bernardo Cervellera that behind the genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya People there are powerful economic interests, since in the areas where this persecuted people live there are not only many valuable natural resources, but it also would be the area where an oil pipeline would pass in order to transport oil to China. Therefore, behind these terrible crimes against humanity there is no a mere religious hatred toward Muslim minorities, but rather there are powerful political and economic interests to benefit national and international military elites. In this sense, making papal visits to the genocidal government of Myanmar and its civic-military leaders Aung Sam Suu Kyi and Ming Aung Hlaing in a context of omissive silence in the face of human rights violations is a sign of closeness with the corrupt powers and a signal of the death of hope for the hundreds of thousands of victims suffering from ethnic cleansing, mass murder and sexual abuse in a systematic and widespread way. The Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights coincides with Priest Reese, commissioner of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, in the fact that the silence of Pope Francis I in the face of persecution against the Rohingya People makes him lose moral credibility. The Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights establishes that those who claim to be the moral compass of the world must have purified the mind, the word and action, developing the mission of the great Peace (Shalom) champions. However, in case those who possess worldly power simply transmit beautiful speeches but that do not fit in with their actions, then they will be part of the evils of the world, being genuine representatives of greed, hatred and deceit.

The Maitriyana agrees with True Christianity in the fact that the divine requires the individual to act justly and to love mercifully while walking with humility along the Way (Micah 6: 8). This means that the Buddhist Law, like the prophets and Master Jesus, teaches the commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself (Matthew 22:39). Therefore, the Maitriyana and True Christianity form a Path in which justice and love are united. The Buddhist Law does not consider that justice and love are opposite values and goals, because their judgments are warm and merciful. In this way, Maitriyana and True Christianity are differentiated from religious groups that consider love in a sentimental way and that are indifferent to bad behavior. The Buddhist Law offers a vision of wisdom with compassion, a vision of justice with mercy, which is the fundamental part of the divine. Indeed, Maitriyana and True Christianity agree in the fact that the divine is the experience of a righteous judge (Psalm 7: 7, 2 Timothy 4: 8) and simultaneously is the experience of love (1 John 4: 8), both being synthesized in the experience of Awakening (Bodhi), as Master Gautama showed under the tree, but also being synthesized in the experience of self-sacrifice, as Master Jesus showed in the cross. Consequently, the Buddhist Law is a system where reconciliation between victims and aggressors is sought, building a community of love and restorative justice, which are integral elements of the divine and even the sacred Purpose (Dharma) of life. Only through this principle and practice of unity between justice and love is that wounds can be healed. The Maitriyana and True Christianity seek that the world be judged righteously, that people are governed with justice, and that refuge be provided to the oppressed (Psalm 9: 7-9). However, state courts do not usually provide justice that treats people fairly, since state courts often discriminate and provide impunity to the rich and powerful. For this reason, the Buddhist Law is totally necessary to keep the practice of justice pure, which is actually the practice of love. The Maitriyana and True Christianity denounce injustices, seeking that the courts do not pervert justice through favoritisms to the rich or partialities to the poor (Leviticus 19:15), having to develop fair, good and whole relationships. Thus, the unity of justice and love is what Maitriyana and True Christianity call Peace (Shalom), which is not the absence of conflict but rather the presence of well-being and spiritual fulfillment. Justice and Love promoted by the Buddhist Law are both the basis and the product of this sacred Peace (Shalom), seeking that the whole humanity eradicates evil, installs good and purifies its interior. However, the Maitriyana and True Christianity affirm that the intrinsic nature of humanity is goodness, so that justice and love do nothing more than express the divine nature or Purpose (Dharma) of Self, achieving spiritual well-being and restorative peace in the relations between humanity and totality. The Buddhist Law then is not about simply following rules and carrying out punishments, but rather about transmitting the knowledge of compassionate love, which is the experience of the divine (Psalm 103: 8, 1 John 4: 8). This experience of love has no parallel with ordinary feelings or emotions, being rather a practice of love toward righteousness and justice (Psalm 33: 5). Maitriyana and True Christianity seek to create a world of love and justice where peoples resolve their conflicts in a harmonious and non-violent way, evolving through mutual support and inter-existence. Only through this compassionate wisdom (karuna-prajna) that unites justice and love is that humanity will be able to eradicate the evils of the world and reach the Ascension toward the Kingdom of Righteousness on Earth. However, without Awakening or Self-sacrifice, as taught by Masters Gautama and Jesus, there will never be justice or love, but only laws and feelings. The reconciling power of Buddhist Law is that it recognizes the Truth of victims and simultaneously offers the opportunity for redemption to the aggressors. The spiritual masters Gautama and Jesus showed that the world can be saved when justice and love are united; transforming the relationship that humanity has both with itself and with the rest of the Cosmos. The Maitriyana and True Christianity have this fascinating power of reconciliation and restorative justice, showing that humanity has actually never left Eden, but rather forgot that Mother Earth is the genuine paradise. In this way, the One Way of Liberation and Salvation always takes place in the here and now, never in a metaphysical existence, realizing the Truth of life through active contemplation, compassionate wisdom and humanitarian ethics. This Path spiritually transforms the internal and external world, allowing unity between the individual and the fellow beings. In short, there is no transformation without Truth and Justice, but there is no real Justice without altruism and love either, seeking the prevention of conflicts and the restoration of health and Peace (Shalom). The Buddhist Law is a hopeful service because it uses mediation, conciliation and restorative justice, instead of believing that justice can be achieved by means of prison sentences or economic penalties. The Maitriyana and True Christianity insist that judicial courts should be humanistic and restorative, seeking reintegration and reconciliation instead of punishment and marginalization.

On the other hand, the Buddhist Law coincides with Islam in the fact that justice is a precondition for the existence of society, reason by which a vision of social justice, ethical governance and even ethical justice is prioritized, seeking to virtuously harmonize the struggle between opposite forces that reside in the psychic and social world. For the Maitriyana, true justice is the realization of liberty, equality and fraternity, seeking to moderate excesses through the ethics of the Middle Way, as taught by Gautama and Allameh Tabatabaei. The Buddhist Law shows the Righteous Pathway toward spiritual development through generosity and justice, denouncing corruption, illegality and oppression at all times. The Maitriyana considers that the basis of justice is human rights, positioning spiritual masters as arbiters and true ethical leaders to determine if the peoples are behaving legally or immorally. The Buddhist Law considers that justice is not only important to form a righteous and distributive society but it is also a fundamental pillar for the survival and salvation of humanity. However, justice will always be perverted without altruism, benevolence and generosity at any time and place.

In conclusion, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has the Purpose (Dharma) to correct religious movements by means of True Spirituality, which implies a direct criticism of Catholic groups that directly or indirectly support violence, such as murders and abuses against children. Therefore, it is established that the “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” has violated human rights and the teachings of masters Gautama and Jesus through supporting a dictatorial and genocidal government that represents one of the greatest evils in the history of humanity, since the State of Myanmar is carrying out the worst international crimes and is also destroying the Buddhist Cultural Heritage. Undoubtedly, the high-ranking religious authorities of Catholicism should be ethical leaders and never be accomplices supporting or endorsing crimes against the sacrality of human life. The Kingdom of Righteousness on Earth will only happen through Peace (Shalom), and never through complicit silence with sexual abuse and slaughters of babies and children. Therefore, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights practices contemplation, wisdom and ethics in order to create a world of compassion. In this way, the Case on “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” is a great lesson for Catholics to stop doing evil, begin to do good and purify their minds through the divine force of Justice and Love, rather than let the dark political and economic interests predominate.

Following masters Gautama and Jesus, who developed a Path of Love and Justice that can go through any Holocaust with dignity and rectitude, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights supervises that religions do not attempt against ethics and human rights, never betraying the Compassionate Wisdom of the Divine. Therefore, the “Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon (Myanmar) & His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo” have been sentenced Responsible for Complicity with Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity, Complicity with Crimes against Peace and Spiritual Fraud.

With spirit of reconciliation (maitri),

Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

President and Spiritual Judge of the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights

DETAILS OF THE CASE

Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights: “In the first months of 2015, the Buddhist Tribunal sentenced the military government of Myanmar for Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes against Humanity, especially against the Rohingya People. Simultaneously, the Buddhist Tribunal sentenced the complicity of false Buddhist organizations in carrying out these international crimes. Then, Aung San Suu Kyi formed a civic-military dictatorship that continued and further worsened the Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Crimes Against Humanity against the Rohingya People, which generated an Opinion of the Buddhist Tribunal against her, declaring her an accomplice of those crimes and responsible for Crimes against Peace as well. From all this ethical and juridical pressure exerted by the Buddhist Tribunal, Aung San Suu Kyi was criticized by the UN for carrying out an ethnic cleansing against the Rohingyas, causing that many organizations to take away the prizes that they have given her. Despite all this, His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon – Myanmar has decided to give full support to Aung San Suu Kyi, revalidating her ethically despite the fact that she is a genocidal criminal.”

LIST OF EVIDENCES

EVIDENCE 1: NEGATIONISM

EVIDENCE 2: SUPPORT TO GENOCIDAL MYANMAR GOVERNMENT

EVIDENCE 3: ANTI-CHRISTIANITY

EVIDENCE 4: FRAUDULENT USE OF BUDDHISM

EVIDENCE 1: NEGATIONISM

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo: “We have asked him (Pope Francis) at least to refrain from using the word ‘Rohingya’ because this word is very much contested and not acceptable by the military, nor the government, nor the people in Myanmar (…) These are the people who do not enjoy the citizenship and are somewhat unwanted in both countries (Myanmar and Bangladesh).” [1]

Reuters: “Myanmar’s most senior Catholic prelate (Cardinal Charles Maung Bo) has urged Pope Francis to avoid using the term ‘Rohingya’ during a visit this month, when he is expected to raise the humanitarian crisis faced by the Muslim minority after a Myanmar army offensive in August. The pope is set to visit largely Buddhist Myanmar from Nov. 27 to Nov. 30, before going to Bangladesh, a predominantly Muslim neighbour where more than 600,000 Rohingya have fled to take shelter in refugee camps. In the first visit by a pope to Myanmar, Francis will meet Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel peace laureate who leads a civilian administration that is less than two years old, the generals it has to share power with, as well as leading Buddhist monks. (…) Francis has used the term Rohingya when he has spoken about their suffering in the recent past. But Suu Kyi has asked foreign leaders not to use the term Rohingya, because in her view it is inflammatory. Bo, appointed by Pope Francis in 2015 as Myanmar’s first and only cardinal, said church leaders in the country had advised him to sidestep the divisive issue of the name. (…)Many people in Myanmar regard the largely stateless Rohingya as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, and they are excluded from the 135 “national races” recognised by law. Regardless of Myanmar’s sensitivities, however, the United Nations and United States continue to call them Rohingya, upholding their right to self-identify. (…) The United Nations has denounced the violence in Myanmar’s northwest over the past 10 weeks as a textbook example of ethnic cleansing, a charge Suu Kyi’s administration has denied,”[2]

Mark Farmaner, the director of Burma Campaign UK: “In the past, the Catholic Church (of Myanmar) pretty much kept its head down, for fear of provoking a backlash against Catholics,”[3]

Kevin Clarke: “Aung San Suu Kyi. For years she has been considered a contemporary heroine in the mode of a Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr. because of her nonviolent resistance to a military junta that had her on house arrest for decades.  A silenced sentinel of democracy, her dignity and courage before the brutality of Myanmar’s ruling junta was an inspiration to people all over the world. In 1991 she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Released from house arrest in 2010, she led the National League for Democracy in November 2015 to an overwhelming victory in Myanmar’s first openly contested election in 25 years. Denied the chance to serve as president on a technicality, she accepted a new position as “state counselor” and became the nation’s de facto leader.  People all over Myanmar, and indeed the world, had the highest hopes for what her self-sacrifice and ultimate victory could mean for the nation. Many of those expectations have been rewarded, but on one glaring issue she has shockingly reverted to the authoritarian form of the people who locked her up. Though they have lived in Myanmar’s Rakhine State for centuries, the Muslim people known as the Rohingya have been denied citizenship in their own land and regularly persecuted in this predominately Buddhist nation. In recent years tensions between Buddhists and Muslims have grown. Though vehemently denied by Suu Kyi and the Myanmar government, the United Nations reports vast human rights abuses, including summary execution and rape in an apparently coordinated repression across Rakhine State. Thousands have been forced from their homes; thousands more have fled across the Indian Ocean on barely seaworthy vessels. Throughout the crisis the world has waited, watching for some kind of intervention from Suu Kyi. Surely this woman of peace who has known so much suffering in her own life would not stand by while the abuse of the Rohingya continued. But Suu Kyi has given rhetorical cover to those in Myanmar’s society or within its military who wish to step up the repression. It appears even Nobel Peace Prize winners have their blind spots. Instead of the bold leadership one might have expected, Suu Kyi has resisted international monitors and denounced as fraudulent reports of the rape, abuse, and repression of the Rohingya people. Rather than express a minimum of concern for the clear suffering of the Rohingya, she has been carefully attentive so as not to offend the sensibilities of the nation’s Buddhist majority. (Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Yangon) has declined to refer to the experience of the Rohingya as a genocide or “ethnic cleansing,” (…). We can keep praying for Suu Kyi to wake up someday to her better nature, to become the person we thought she was and step up to protect this minority community, but that hope must be matched by attentive international advocacy for the human rights of the Rohingya.”[4]

EVIDENCE 2: SUPPORT TO the GENOCIDAL GOVERNMENT of MYANMAR

Washington Post: “Burmese security forces have carried out mass arson, killing, rape and looting, destroying hundreds of villages and forcing more than 400,000 Rohingya to flee to neighboring Bangladesh. Given the scale and overall context of these latest atrocities, together with evidence of intent on the part of the Burmese military, Human Rights Watch believes that these more recent crimes also constitute crimes against humanity. The fact that the powerful military is behind these acts means that there is almost no chance that the government will bring key perpetrators to justice…. Let there be no doubt: The Burmese army is engaged in horrific atrocities in its ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya. When soldiers shoot men in their custody, hack women and children to death, and burn their homes, the world needs to pay attention and act together to stop these crimes. (…) The U.N. Security Council and concerned governments need to take immediate action by imposing an arms embargo and targeted sanctions on military leaders and pursue all avenues to hold those responsible to account. More specifically, the council should refer the situation in Burma to the International Criminal Court.”[5]

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo: “In this context, it is advisable at this time not to qualify the situation as genocide or ethnic cleansing against the Muslim community”[6]

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo: “Our government needs our appreciation and support to a very challenging process. Democratic forces need support and understanding. I see a great moral obligation on the part of religious leaders.”[7] “Much has been said by the western media on the role of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  Many feel that the sentiments and principles she expressed so strongly in her latest address should have come earlier. But to lay all blame on her, stigmatizing her response is a very counterproductive measure. The circumstances under which her government took over, the multiple humanitarian challenges her government had to face during the short time, the continued role of military constitutionally imposed lack of leverage in security issues and scores of other challenges make her role a daunting one. All of us need to move from a wounded past towards a healing future. Let the lessons of the past enlighten our future.”[8]

Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights: “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo has not only participated in an event with the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, which is a Buddhist organization sentenced for Complicity with Genocide and Crimes against Humanity, but also in the same event he has publicly defended the Myanmar government, criticizing the international community for having removed honorary titles from de facto president Aung San Suu Kyi.”

Zarni Mann: “Religious leaders of Myanmar called for unity and peace as they gathered at the country’s first mass interfaith rally at Aung San Stadium in Yangon on 10 October 2017. It was the first major push for improved relations between followers of different faiths since an eruption of deadly violence in August inflamed communal tensions, especially between Buddhists and Muslims, and triggered an exodus of some 520,000 Muslims to Bangladesh. (…) As the crowd lit candles and prayed for peace—particularly in Rakhine State—Dr. Bhaddanta Iddhibala, chairman of the Yangon Region Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, appealed for people to stop blaming others for conflict and help restore peace. “If each of us only see the mistakes of others, there will be no peace among us. We need to have inner peace in each of us first and avoid the actions which could affect the peace, while praying for the peace,” he said. Muslim leader Alahaj Mofti Mohamad said the harmony in which Muslims have lived for centuries in Myanmar is being threatened by hate. “We, the Muslims, strongly hope for the immediate end of the current conflicts and the haters. We strongly desire to live in harmony as our ancestors lived in past centuries. We want back the situation where we shared the happiness together with humanity, without haters and doubts of each other, without discrimination,” he told the crowd. “We would like to urge every citizen to work for the peace, unity and living in harmony,” he added. (…) Cardinal Charles Bo, the current Archbishop of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Yangon, also urged the international community to understand the situation of the country. “We want to tell the world that Myanmar is living under the teaching of Lord Buddha. We have sympathy to every human being. The world has to understand [Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s] government and has to help her. It is impossible to solve every problem in just 18 months,” said Cardinal Charles Bo. The Cardinal said the country under the leadership of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has its own strategy to solve the problems. He criticized the international community for stripping awards from the State Counselor. “She is not working for her country to win the awards. The Nobel peace prize came to her, she did not chase it. The awards can be stripped from her. For me, I would like to give back the awards with the compensation,” said the cardinal. “Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is the one who led this country to the democratic path and struggled for many years. We want to let the world know that we have our own strategy to solve our own problems. We believe in the leadership of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is our hope,” he added. Yangon chief minister U Phyo Min Thein, who lit the peace candle to open the ceremony, said the event showed the world the country is living in harmony and praying. “This event shows Myanmar is a country with the people of different faith, living in harmony and sharing the sympathy for those who are in difficultly,” said the chief minister. “We hope the world will understand the situation of our country,” he added.”[9]

Asianews: “Burmese Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, staunchly defended the Lady’s work, recalling her commitment to democracy and personal sacrifices during the military dictatorship. “Myanmar is at the cross roads of history.   We are led by the great leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  After sixty years, she has sacrificed her life for the good of the nation. With thousands of others, our pilgrimage of democracy she ensured that  we have more rights, our nation is  accepted as one of the future success stories. This Myanmar of our dreams is going through the throes of a new birth.  Myanmar has to undergo   Peace building, State Building and Nation building.   Today we are gathered as the Myanmar citizens to affirm these three tasks in the company of  Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.”  In response to international criticism, the archbishop of Yangon stressed the spirituality of the Burmese people, also affirming that “religion is not the cause” of the Rakhine conflict. “There is a campaign going on outside the country that Myanmar people are not compassionate.  I wish to tell the world compassion is the common religion of the Myanmar people. This is a very spiritual country. Our people are deeply religious. Every day, peace is in our prayers.”[10]

Millenial: “Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, is calling on the international community to not abandon Aung San Suu Kyi, despite her weak response to the crisis” [11]

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, archbishop of Yangon: “Stigmatising Aung San Suu Kyi and attacking her through the media is not a long-term solution,” (…) “A false step will see her out of government and that would be the end of any dream of democracy. We should always remember the army took back democracy three times in the history of Myanmar.”[12]

Nirmala Carvalho: “Myanmar’s first Cardinal says Aung San Suu Kyi needs the support of the international community during the ongoing crisis in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, said Suu Kyi has been over criticized – “sometimes mercilessly” –  by many in the international community over the actions of the military against the Muslim Rohingya population, but what she really needs are outsiders to help provide constructive solutions to the crisis. Over the past month, nearly 500,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar into neighboring Bangladesh, after Myanmar’s military began what it called “clearance operations” last month. (…) and Rohingya refugees claim this involved indiscriminate murder, arson, and forced removals.” [13]

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon: “(if Aung San Suu Kyi’s perceptions of the Rohingya situation are incorrect) her integrity and commitment are above suspicion…Her own lifetime sacrifice to resurrect from the ruins of junta misrule of sixty years is a great historic achievement,” “In her fragile hands, she holds the dreams of millions of this country.” “Though Aung San Suu Kyi embraced diversity by bringing in Christians and Muslims into her inner circle, the agenda of nationalists and extremist monks has been threatening to shred the social fabric especially in Rakhine state,” “And it has happened now.” “Appreciation of her role in democratizing this nation is much needed,” “Rohingya is not an easy term. It is a politically charged term,” “Not to use it will incense the Rohingya support groups. Using the word would provoke universal condemnation among the Burmese people, army, and government.”[14]

John Newton: “Burma’s most senior Catholic bishop has expressed support for Aung San Suu Kyi – despite the international community’s widespread criticism of her response to the country’s Rohingya crisis. In defence of Ms Suu Kyi, Cardinal Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon (Rangoon), underlined that constitutionally her authority is limited and highlighted the powers still wielded by the army, which a number of sources state has violently targeted Rohingyas (…)Cardinal Bo pointed out that, despite the country’s democratic reforms, the political situation could still be precarious (…)In his message to the 24th World Congress of the Apostleship of the Sea in Taiwan – a copy of which the cardinal sent to Aid to the Church in Need – he stressed the army still exercised significant political influence. It is estimated that 500,000 Rohingyas have fled to neighbouring Bangladesh in the last five weeks, following a military crackdown which came after attacks on police stations in Rakhine State by the militant Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army. Amnesty International has provided evidence that Rohingya villages have been burned by members of Burma’s military forces and vigilante mobs. (…)This week Oxford city council voted unanimously to strip Aung San Suu Kyi of the Freedom of the City of Oxford, where she studied as an undergraduate – the latest honour that she has had removed over her response to the Rohingya crisis. As part of the backlash, 400,000 people signed a petition demanding that she be stripped of her Nobel Peace Prize. Aung San Suu Kyi came under increased criticism after she denied that the government had authorised the destruction of Rohingya settlements in a speech on Tuesday, 19th September – despite generally condemning human rights violations.”[15]

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo: “As we know, her role has come under scorching criticism. Her status is not official under the constitution.” “As long as Daw Aung San Suu Kyi continues we have hope. She is a strong woman with strong principles. Despite the piercing criticisms of the international community, Myanmar depends on her for many compassionate responses.” “Our perception is that she is trying to stabilise the fragile democracy. Democracy is hard won and it took 60 years to reach where the country is.” “The army, like the Thai army, has no patience with democracy and grabbed power from democracy thrice already in Myanmar. I think Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has an agenda to pull the country from the grips of the army which controls 25 percent of the parliamentary – and also the important – ministries. This is a tightrope walk and she is trying her best.” “Having said that, it is very unfortunate that the recent events did not show her in a good light. She should have spoken on behalf of the victims, especially so many women and children forced to leave under such painful circumstances. She lost the support of the international community by her silence.” [16]

EVIDENCE 3: ANTI-CHRISTIANITY

Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights: “It has been proven that Christianity has adopted a critical position against the government of Myanmar, not only by showing that compassion beats at the heart of the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, but also showing that the position of Cardinal Charles Maung Bo supporting the government of Myanmar is an immoral and anti-Christian position.”

Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, the Archbishop of the Dhaka: “It is very good that Bangladesh has opened the doors for the Rohingya, who have suffered all kinds of atrocities”[17]

James Romen Boiragi, Bishop of Khulna, Bangladesh: “We condemn this kind of military operation (…). This is an act against humanity and a violation of human rights. So many people are living inhuman lives. Lot of children are struggling to survive.” [18]

Pakistani Bishop Joseph Arshad, Pakistan Bishops’ National Commission for Justice & Peace: “We cannot remain silent. It’s a humanitarian suffering and the Catholic Church in Pakistan stands strong with Rohingya people” [19]

Dominican Father James Channan, director of Peace Center Lahore: “(appealed for other Muslim countries to support the Rohingya and) raise their voice against this grave violation of human rights and religiously motivated violence. (…) Every person has a right to life and freedom of religion.” [20]

Jesuit Father Xavier John Bosco – Director of the Jesuit-run Center for Information, Training, Research and Action (Hyderabad – India): “On compassionate and humanitarian grounds, we must welcome the Rohingya and grant shelter to them,” “It is heartbreaking to hear of the violence and murder, rape and loot of millions of Rohingya,” “Many people are shocked at this human tragedy; but we do not know what to do. Inactivity and indifference are greater tragedies.” “Will the nations and the leaders of the nations come forward, risking their own comfort to the rescue of the battered and bleeding Rohingya?” [21]

Father Frederick D’Souza, the Executive Director of Caritas India: “It is very important to respect the human rights of the people as it aims at upholding their dignity,” “The UN and the respective governments should sort out the issues and poor and the vulnerable people should not be put at the risk of survival.” [22]

Archbishop Desmond Tutu: “My dear Aung San Suu Kyi: I am now elderly, decrepit and formally retired, but breaking my vow to remain silent on public affairs out of profound sadness about the plight of the Muslim minority in your country, the Rohingya. (…) Your emergence into public life allayed our concerns about violence being perpetrated against members of the Rohingya. But what some have called ‘ethnic cleansing’ and others ‘a slow genocide’ has persisted – and recently accelerated. The images we are seeing of the suffering of the Rohingya fill us with pain and dread. We know that you know that human beings may look and worship differently – and some may have greater firepower than others – but none are superior and none inferior; that when you scratch the surface we are all the same, members of one family, the human family; that there are no natural differences between Buddhists and Muslims; and that whether we are Jews or Hindus, Christians or atheists, we are born to love, without prejudice. Discrimination doesn’t come naturally; it is taught. My dear sister: If the political price of your ascension to the highest office in Myanmar is your silence, the price is surely too steep. A country that is not at peace with itself, that fails to acknowledge and protect the dignity and worth of all its people, is not a free country. It is incongruous for a symbol of righteousness to lead such a country; it is adding to our pain. As we witness the unfolding horror we pray for you to be courageous and resilient again. We pray for you to speak out for justice, human rights and the unity of your people. We pray for you to intervene in the escalating crisis and guide your people back towards the path of righteousness.”[23]

EVIDENCE 4: FRAUDULENT USE OF BUDDHISM

Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights: “While it is always recommended and completely welcome the fact that leaders of all traditions employ the Buddhist teachings of Master Siddharta Gautama, Cardinal Charles Maung Bo has used Buddhist philosophy in the context of his defense of the genocidal government of Myanmar, which constitutes a fraudulent use of Buddhism.”

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo: “All of us must avoid all hate speeches. Lord Buddha said, Every human being must feel the oneness of all life: even a death of a leaf shall shatter a human heart. For a compassionate heart there is no “other”. Everyone is part of me, and I am part of every one. This nation was nourished by such great teachings of the great leader. We cannot condone death of human life in any way. Hate speech can poison the minds and help only merchants of death. Let this nation choose life. Life matters most. Let us join in the conversation of reconciliation and of rebuilding this golden land. Let Metta and Karuna be our two eyes. Let our tongue proclaim love to all living beings and things. Let the journey of healing start now. Time for all of us to stop all hate speech! War and conflict would only further chronic poverty and suffering of all our people, citizens and others. Let us collaborate with the government in rebuilding this nation. A New Myanmar of peace and Prosperity is possible.”[24]

Notification to Scotland Yard

Case 34-2017: Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph

Notification to Scotland Yard

On July 06, 2018, an International Notification to Scotland Yard was made as a result that on 4 July 2018 two British citizens, Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturguess, would have been seriously intoxicated with the nerve gas “Novichok”, which would be the same toxin used against the Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal. Because this event is serious and should be approached with the utmost seriousness, the International Buddhist Law puts all its knowledge at the service of anti-terrorism.

Therefore, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights is communicating with the Scotland Yard to confirm them that there is the possibility that this event is not the product of random intoxication, but it might be a test to carry out future terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom. However, although the secretary of the interior of the United Kingdom has stated that the Russian government could be behind this new event, the criminological analyzes of the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights indicate that there is another alternative explanation. Given the fact that the possible “Novichok” nerve gas terrorist attack against two British citizens was carried out only 24 hours before the execution or death sentence of Shoko Asahara, leader of the criminal organization Aum Shinrikyo (Aleph), this would probably not be mere coincidence, especially considering that this international criminal sect carried out multiple terrorist attacks in Japan with the result of dozens of deaths and thousands of wounded by mean of using sarin gas. As the Aum Shinrikyo (Aleph) organization was investigated arduously by the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights, and was sentenced as Responsible for Organized Crime, Terrorism and Crimes against Humanity and Peace, the modus operandi of the followers of Shoko Asahara is well known, and it is also known that they have the financial and technological means to carry out all kinds of terrorist attacks throughout the world, since they have even experimented with bacteriological and nuclear weapons in the past. Moreover, it is confirmed that Aum Shinrikyo (Aleph) was also investigated and banned in Russia, where they could have illegally acquired nerve gas “Novichok”.

Finally, in order to save lives, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights recommends the Scotland Yard to investigate if there is any member of the Aum Shinrikyo (Aleph) group residing in the United Kingdom, because if so, there is a significant probability that they are planning future terrorist attacks.

Judgment on Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph

Case No. 34/2017: Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph

ETHICAL JUDGMENT

Dear Prosecutor, Public Defender, Ambassador, Press Secretary and Members of the Jury of the International Buddhist Ethics Committee (IBEC) and Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights (BTHR), regarding the Case 34-2017 against “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph”, on November 12, 2017, it is hereby recorded that the trial to analyze the violation of Human Rights and Buddhist Ethics made by the accused has been concluded. This Case has been carried out as a result of the “Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Case” and the “Ken Wilber Case”.

After the analysis of the presentation of the Case and the validation of proofs, it has proceeded with the voting of 5 members of the Jury, confirming that there was 1 vote of Insanity and 4 votes of Responsible for “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” for the serious crimes of Organized Crime, Terrorism, Crimes against Humanity and Peace, Spiritual Fraud and False Buddhism. In addition to the fact that the group “Aum Shinrikyo” and its leader “Shoko Asahara” have already been condemned by the Japanese justice for multiple homicides and other offences, they have also carried out international crimes and human rights violations through terrorist acts, torture, crimes against humanity and violations against Buddhism. This shows that “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” is a False Buddhist Spirituality, being really a criminal organization that illegitimately usurps the Spirituality tradition founded by Siddharta Gautama, deceiving and manipulating thousands of people through the supposed possession of spiritual status with the purpose of committing crimes. In this way, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights declares that “Shoko Asahara” is a false spiritual master, so that his whole movement or sect is spurious, immoral and illegal, devoting itself rather to organized crime instead of engaging in spiritual, ethical and humanitarian activities. Thus, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has implemented the jurisprudence used in the “ISIS Case”, “Ricardo Javier Ocampo Case”, “State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Case”, “Ken Wilber Case” and “National Ecclesiastical Tribunal Case”, declaring “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” as responsible for spiritual fraud with the aim of committing illegal acts.

On the other hand, the fact that the Japanese courts of justice have sentenced the false master “Shoko Asahara” to death penalty for his serious crimes not only does not imply any kind of restorative sentence or ethical teaching to the thousands of followers that compose the “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph”, but also constitutes a violation of the human right to life, which is why the Japanese State is required to annul the death sentence against “Shoko Asahara” and it is required to install him in a psychiatric institution to receive psychological assistance for the rest of his life. It is even requested Japanese Buddhist Masters to provide free and unconditional spiritual teachings to Mr. “Shoko Asahara” so that he can learn True Buddhism and he can repent and make public apologies to all his victims as well. Only this kind of wise and compassionate action will prevent the “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” cult from continuing to carry out crimes against humanity and international peace. In fact, declaring this movement as False Buddhism and simultaneously locking its leader in a psychiatric institution would be the best ethical teaching for its thousands of followers, who undoubtedly have followed a psychotic individual with apocalyptic delusions.

The Maitriyana Community offers the accused “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” this Ethical Judgment as a teaching method on how a Righteous and Appropriate Spirituality (Samma-Sasana) truly behaves. If the members of this illegal cult quickly learn from this Ethical Judgment and stop following the criminal “Shoko Asahara” then they can eventually become a genuine spiritual community. Even, if the group “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” stops doing evil, begins to do good and purifies the mind of its members through the teachings of the true Awakened and Savior Beings (Buddhas-Christs), then the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights could also come to the conclusion that this criminal group has been rehabilitated and that they might be part of Buddhism. This decision would have precedents not only in the “Angulimala Case”, which was about a serial killer redeemed through the supreme ethical guide of Master Gautama, but also in the “Yakkha Tribe Case”, which was about a murderous and cannibal community but then pacified and rehabilitated by Master Gautama.

Due to the fact that associating Buddhist Spirituality with any kind of terrorist group constitutes an unprecedented defamation, from the “Ken Wilber Case” the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has decided to carry out a trial against “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” in order to categorically differentiate Buddhism from Terrorism, since while Spirituality is linked to the evolution of life and love, instead, terrorist groups are linked to spreading death and hatred. In this sense, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights clarifies that all journalists and scholars who associate Buddhism with the terrorist activities of “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” will be defamating and slandering against all the spiritual communities (sanghas) of the world.

The Maitriyana is a Path of Peaceful Liberation and a pathway of reconciliation (wakai), functioning as a lifestyle that confronts the ignorance and manipulation of the governments and sects of the world. Thus, the tradition of Buddhist Law reserves itself a special condemnation toward those who betray and attack Spirituality. However, simultaneously, reconciliation (wakai) is always reserved as a possibility to cure division, dualism and disunity. The practice and theory of Maitriyana is effectively a path to Salvation through active contemplation, compassionate wisdom and humanitarian ethics. Therefore, the Buddhist Law is a pathway of self-sacrifice or self-surrender (wa) for the sake of others, strengthening the roots so that a world of harmony and Great Peace (Yamato) grows. This means that the Maitriyana project transcends East and the West, seeking the realization of a worldwide Pure and Righteous Earth, which would be created and maintained only through dialogue with values. The paradoxical-dialectical logic used by spiritual masters is precisely aimed at the production of social and planetary harmony, seeking to generate an essentially peaceful humanity. In this way, the millenary experience of Buddhist Law has much to offer in the contemporary era that lacks ethical leadership, where the human being seems to have forgotten that the Purpose of every society must be to live in harmony. The mission of Maitriyana is to protect that horizon or goal of reconciliation (wakai), which is the most powerful force in history, being much more powerful than any nuclear bomb. Even though it may eventually suffer persecutions, the movement of Buddhist Law has been in the world for over two thousand six hundred years. It is a movement that precedes all existing States, and without any doubt, will continue to exist when the States of the future emerge. This is because Spirituality has the power to be the most powerful force in the face of dissatisfaction, impermanence and insubstantiality of life. Even if it is not something perfect, permanent and substantial, the ethical leadership is much more powerful than any government in the world. Maitriyana is the pathway of reconciliation (wakai), practicing the peaceful art of understanding, detachment and liberation, judging injustices through compassionate wisdom, which goes beyond contemplation and ethics, being a drive of altruism and spiritual love in the Universe. The day when nations understand that this Earth is Eden and that humanity can once again experience paradise in the here and now, by being in harmony with nature, that day the Buddhist Law will have fulfilled its Great Purpose (Maha-Dharma).

In conclusion, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has the Purpose (Dharma) to correct the sectarian movements through True Spirituality, which implies a direct criticism of the cults that distort Spirituality by supporting violence. Therefore, it is established that “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” has violated the teachings of Masters Gautama and Jesus through terrorist attacks and crimes against humanity, which in addition to being international crimes and Human Rights violations are also a Spiritual Fraud and False Buddhism that immediately nullifies any supposed relationship between Buddhism and “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph”. Undoubtedly, spiritual teachers must be ethical leaders and never criminal psychotics who commit crimes and attack the sacredness of human life. The Pure Land or Kingdom of Righteousness will never happen through violent means, but it can happen only through peace and justice. Therefore, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights practices Spirituality, Ethics and International Law as an adequate means to create a better world. In this way, the Case of “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” is a great lesson for the sects and cults to be purified by means of the Force of Peace and Justice, instead of the predominance of political power and economic manipulation.

Following the Masters Gautama and Jesus, who developed a Path of Peace and Justice that profoundly transformed humanity, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights supervises that sects and cults do not attempt against ethics and human rights, never betraying the Compassionate Wisdom of the divine, reason why “Aum Shinrikyo & Aleph” has been sentenced as Responsible for Organized Crime, Terrorism, Crimes against Humanity and Peace, Spiritual Fraud and False Buddhism.

With spirit of reconciliation (maitri),

Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

President and Spiritual Judge of Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights

Evidences of Aum Shinrikyo Case

CASE 34-2017: AUM SHINRIKYO & ALEPH CULT

By Master Yan Maitri-Shi, Prosecutor

HONORABLE JURY OF INTERNATIONAL BUDDHIST ETHICS COMMITTEE (IBEC) & BUDDHIST TRIBUNAL ON HUMAN RIGHTS (BTHR)

After Legitimating and Validating Evidences and Charges by Master Maitreya, President and Spiritual Judge of IBEC-BTHR, it is addressed the case against the accused party, AUM SHINRIKYO & ALEPH CULT. This investigation was initiated from the “Case Ken Wilber” and the “Case Supreme Court of the Russian Federation”.

The Charges by which the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights is accusing AUM SHINRIKYO & ALEPH CULT are enumerated below:

  • Organized Crime
  • Terrorism
  • Crimes against Humanity and Peace
  • Spiritual Fraud and False Buddhism

Therefore, it is detailed a series of EVIDENCES that support the Charges referred so that the Jury members decide about the possible “Responsibility”, “Innocence” or “Insanity” of the accused. Such evidence come from graphic and audiovisual media that have been gathered, sorted and confirmed in their order and context as Means of Proof in order to know, establish, dictate and determine the Responsibility of the Accused for committing the aforementioned Charges.

The procedure established in the Statute of INTERNATIONAL BUDDHIST ETHICS  COMMITTEE & BUDDHIST TRIBUNAL ON HUMAN RIGHTS provides both bodies the ostentation to enjoy independence and liberty from state and national regulation and control, besides having the legality and acting as a Buddhist People in order to assert its customs, traditions, practices, procedures, judgments and rights as well as acting in pursuit of the development of Spirituality, of Buddhist Ethics, and of the defense of International Human Rights. This procedure has the particularity, singularity and distinction of having “Special Jurisdiction of the Tribal Law” and “Universal Jurisdiction of the International Law”, thus having the Character, Juridical validity, Legal Powers, infrastructure, Training and Capability necessary to be Actor, Administrator and Executor of Justice in this realm and exercise, by judging of the Accused by means of an Ethical Judgment whose Purpose is Truth, Reconciliation and Learning.-

DETAILS OF THE CASE

International Buddhist Ethics Committee: In 1995 the powerful Japanese sect “Aum Shinrikyo” carried out terrorist acts killing dozens of people and seriously injuring thousands of lives. This sect, now called “Aleph”, has been spread through several countries in Europe, where it begins to be persecuted as a terrorist organization, as happens in Russia. Indeed, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has been able to analyze during the “Supreme Court of Russia Federation” Case that “Aleph” sect is being banned in that country. Because the actions carried out by this dangerous sect would be Crimes against Humanity, the International Buddhist Ethics Committee is in favor of this prohibition. On the other hand, this Case not only plans to demonstrate that the Aum Shinrikyo or Aleph sect has violated the International Human Rights Law, but also seeks to demonstrate that this sect constitutes False Buddhism, which is very important because many scholars have unreasonably accused Buddhism of being behind these terrorist acts, erroneously stating that this sect has Buddhist bases. Among these malicious or ignorant academics is Ken Wilber, who has already been sentenced by the International Buddhist Ethics Committee.

LIST OF EVIDENCES

EVIDENCE 1: Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

EVIDENCE 2: Assassinations, Kidnappings and Extortions

EVIDENCE 3: Torture, Mind Control & False Spirituality

EVIDENCE 4: Attacks against Buddhism

EVIDENCE 1: Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Monterey Institute of International Studies: “[On] march 20, 1995, five members of the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo (Supreme Truth) boarded subway trains in Tokyo, Japan, and released the deadly chemical nerve agent sarin. The attack killed 12 people and injured over 1,000, of whom 17 were critically injured (requiring intensive care), 37 were severely injured (with muscular twitching and gastrointestinal problems), and 984 were slightly injured (with pinpoint pupils but no other symptoms).  Aum’s interest in chemical and biological weapons (CBW) terrorism can be traced back to 1990. Between 1990 and 1995, Aum launched 17 known CBW attacks, with motivations ranging from assassination to mass murder. ”[1]

BARBIE LATZA NADEAU, JAKE ADELSTEIN: “The Japanese Doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo (Supreme Truth) has been pretty quiet since its members, following the orders of its founder, Shoko Asahara, killed 13 people and sent more than 5,000 to the hospital in a gruesome sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway in March 1995. But apparently that relative silence doesn’t mean they’ve stopped their madness. Last week, 58 people believed to be affiliated with the creepy cult were caught at a seedy hotel in Danilovgrad, Montenegro, where they were holding a conference, according to Montenegro press reports.  (…) Aum Shinrikyo was the first—and to date the only—terrorist group to launch a sophisticated chemical warfare attack. It had invested a fortune developing the technology to manufacture a weapon first produced by the Nazis in the 1930s that, even now, al Qaeda and the so-called Islamic State can only dream about: a colorless, odorless nerve agent that causes victims to suffocate within ten minutes and may do permanent neurological damage to those who survive. It is classified as a weapon of mass destruction, along with atomic bombs and biological agents. But a more suitable description would be weapon for mass murder. In 2013, the world got a glimpse of sarin in action when the Syrian regime used some of its stockpile on civilians. On March 20, 1995, Asahara’s followers dropped five plastic bags filled with sarin in liquid form on Tokyo subway trains at the height of rush hour, simultaneously puncturing them with sharpened metal-tipped umbrellas. Although the death toll was lower than expected, hundreds of people still suffer from the effects of the poison and the trauma of that day. Many more people likely would have been killed had the agent been dispersed in aerosol form. The cult had plans to disperse the gas over Tokyo with a helicopter purchased from Russia, but it was stopped before it could put the larger plan into effect, according to police officers who worked the case Followers of the cult, then and now, worship Shoko Asahara, whose real name is Chizuo Matsumoto. He is currently on death row awaiting the outcome of appeals on multiple convictions related to the 1995 attacks, but the faithful see him as a Christ-like figure. The fact that those in Montenegro were worshiping a man who orchestrated what he hoped would be an apocalyptic incident might indicate that they agree with his philosophy—the fact that they were holding their meeting on the anniversary of the Tokyo attack would appear even more incriminating. (…) After the 1995 Tokyo gas attacks, nearly 200 people were charged with various offenses related to the atrocity. Some members of the cult are still on trial for various felony charges including attempted murder and sending mail bombs.”[2]

MASAMI ITO: “On the morning of March 20, 1995, members of the Aum Shinrikyo (Supreme Truth) doomsday cult carried out the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in the postwar era, releasing a toxic nerve gas that killed 13 and injured thousands during the rush-hour in Tokyo. Twenty years later, a number of victims continue to suffer physical or mental after-effects of the sarin attack, experiencing complications such as impaired speech, blurred vision and post-traumatic stress disorder. Some of the more unlucky ones are still confined to their beds. To date, investigators have charged 192 Aum members over their alleged role in the attack, with 13 members, including leader Shoko Asahara, receiving the death sentence. Katsuya Takahashi, who was arrested in June 2012 after being on the run for 17 years, is the last cultist still on trial. Takahashi is thought to have been the driver for one of the senior cultists who sprayed the gas, and faces charges that include murder, kidnapping and solitary confinement resulting in death, and violation of the Explosives Control Law. He pleaded not guilty to almost all charges against him at the beginning of his trial at the Tokyo District Court in January. A verdict is expected at the end of April. Following Aum’s dismantlement, former members quickly reorganized into a group called Aleph in 2000. Others joined a splinter group headed by former Aum spokesman Fumihiro Joyu called Hikari no Wa (Circle of Rainbow Light). The spin-off groups will remain under the Public Security Intelligence Agency’s surveillance until the end of January 2018.”[3]

Judge Yamazak: “It was mass murder resulting from blind faith in a self-righteous dogma, which leaves no room for excuse (…)It was an act of indiscriminate terrorism unprecedented in criminal history because it was carried out in crowded trains.” [4]

Japan Times: “The Tokyo High Court on Wednesday upheld a lower court ruling that sentenced a former Aum Shinrikyo fugitive to life in prison for his role in the doomsday cult’s 1995 sarin attacks on the Tokyo subway system that killed 13 people and sickened thousands. Katsuya Takahashi, 58, was found guilty by the Tokyo District Court in April 2015 of murder and other crimes for his role as a driver for one of the cult members who released the deadly poison on a subway car on March 20, 1995. Takahashi was also accused of involvement in three other attacks orchestrated by Aum during its heyday in the early 1990s. During the appeal process, Takahashi’s lawyers claimed that he wasn’t sure what chemical the cultist would release, and that he didn’t expect the incident to lead to casualties. The lower court said in the original ruling that Takahashi had been warned by a former senior cult member and so was “aware that a volatile poison was to be released and deaths were highly likely.” It said Takahashi played an “indispensable” role in ensuring a successful attack, though it acknowledged that he was simply following instructions from his superior. Yoshihiro Inoue, a 46-year-old former senior cult member who was sentenced to death over his role in the gas attacks, testified during Takahashi’s trial in the lower court that he had told him that sarin would be released. Takahashi denied that Inoue had ever told him this. Takahashi was apprehended in Tokyo in June 2012 after nearly 17 years on the run. He was the last Aum Shinrikyo member on a special nationwide wanted list. Cult founder Shoko Asahara, whose real name is Chizuo Matsumoto, has been sentenced to death for masterminding the subway attacks. According to the district court ruling, Inoue took part in the attacks to realize his own religious goal of achieving enlightenment according to the teachings and urging of his guru Shoko Asahara and to secure his position in the cult.”[5]

Council on Foreign Relations: “As early as five years before the March 1995 subway attack, the group attempted to carry out at least nine biological assaults—all failed—according to a 1998 New York Times investigation. Originally, Aum planned to massacre citizens by spraying botulin, the most lethal natural poison to humans, from buildings and modified delivery vans. Aum’s team of young scientists cultured and experimented with biological toxins, including botulin, anthrax, cholera, and Q fever. The transition to chemical weapons came after biological attacks failed. Investigations and raids after the subway attack showed that Aum was capable of producing thousands of kilograms of sarin a year, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The cult had also acquired a Russian military helicopter that could have been used to distribute the gas, the police said. Initial plots failed to produce the deadly chaos that Aum wanted, although one incident in June 1993 in which Anthrax spores were released from a Tokyo building caused a foul odor in addition to the deaths of some birds, plants, and pets. According to the CDC, Aum sent a fact-finding team to Zaire to study and collect Ebola virus samples in 1993. Aum reportedly sprayed some of the failed batches of biological weapons in the areas surrounding U.S.military bases in the early attempts involving botulin, according to the New York Times. After the subway attack, the State Department says that Japanese authorities reinvestigated and found Aum responsible for a mysterious attack—that later proved to be sarin—on a residential neighborhood in 1994 that killed seven and injured over one hundred people. Russian officials arrested several Aum followers in 2001 for planning to bomb the Imperial Palace in Japan as part of an elaborate attempt to free Asahara.”[6]

Morris M: “When Australian Federal Police raided the Banjawarn ranch in 1995, it was like they’d stepped into a nightmare. Remote parts of the property were littered with the carcasses of sheep that had died in agony. Tests revealed that they’d been poisoned with sarin. In the abandoned house, policemen stumbled across a vast chemical weapons lab, primed to produce nerve gas. Horrifically, it began to dawn on them that they’d uncovered a testing ground for weapons of mass destruction. (…) Following the 1995 raid, police discovered an active uranium mine on the ranch, leading some to conclude the explosion had been Aum testing its own crude nuclear weapon. (…) The group was later found to have been creating anthrax and nerve agents like Soman at the ranch, some of which had been tested on the local wildlife. (…) As early as 1990, Aum’s leadership was planning mass-casualty terror attacks. In April of that year, they modified a van to emit a fine spray as it drove and then loaded up with samples of botulinum toxin. The group then drove it through central Tokyo, spraying the Japanese parliament with one of the deadliest bacteria known to man. Thanks to the cult’s poor understanding of germ warfare, the attack released a harmless version of the bacteria. But it inspired them to greater, scarier heights. Two years later, the group managed to acquire some anthrax. A stupendously deadly strain of bacteria, anthrax can kill you in unimaginably gruesome ways. If you happen to get infected by inhaling it, you’ll almost certainly die even with treatment. Aum took their anthrax samples, loaded them into giant aerosols, and tried to spray the whole lot over Tokyo. A successful anthrax attack could have killed thousands. Thankfully, Aum had accidentally acquired a vaccination strain that was harmless to humans. Less happily, the repeated failure of their germ attacks is what inspired them to move on to sarin. By 1994, they’d successfully tested their new gas in the town of Matsumoto, killing eight people and wounding nearly 500. (…) In the aftermath of the Tokyo subway attack, Japanese police raided Aum compounds across the country, hunting for more sarin. What they found was chilling. Aum had established vast chemical factories capable of producing literally tons of sarin. A highly effective nerve agent, sarin can cause seizures after exposure to a single drop. Aum was stockpiling enough to power a country-wide war. Sarin wasn’t the only weapon that Aum’s chemical warfare department was developing. Up to 80 members were found to be developing mustard gas, sodium cyanide, phosgene gas, tabun, and VX to use against civilian populations. At the same time, a dedicated biological warfare lab was churning out a nonstop assembly line of horrors. Anthrax, Ebola, and the deadly Q-Fever were all being developed as weapons, all potentially capable of wiping out thousands of people. By this time, the full extent of Aum’s arsenal was becoming clear. The group had also taken to manufacturing AK-47s, building enough to equip their own paramilitary outfit. They’d acquired a drone from somewhere and modified it to spray nerve agents on those below. All in all, Aum were found to be better equipped for war than many armies. That they didn’t deploy their capabilities more intelligently is a matter of pure fortune. (…) the March 20 gas attack on the Tokyo subway is today known as simply a warm-up. Less than two months later, on May 5, 1995, two men from Aum left a mysterious bag in the restroom at Tokyo’s Shinjuku Station. Inside was a timed weapon, set to release a deadly cloud of cyanide gas directly under a main ventilation shaft. Had it gone as planned, it’s estimated that this second gas attack could have killed as many as 10,000 people. That it failed is down to nothing more than dumb luck. A cleaning woman found the bag and moved it out of sight behind a door. By sheer fluke, the way she carried it resulted in the bomb’s trigger mechanism getting knocked out of place. When the timer reached zero, instead of exploding, the bag burst into flames. Although this could still have caused the cyanide to be released, it caught the attention of passersby, who managed to put out the fire before catastrophe occurred. Although two Aum members were later convicted of planting the cyanide bomb, the cult wasn’t done yet. Even with its leaders in prison, letter bombs were sent out to the governor of Tokyo, wounding one official. More cyanide bombs were planted on the subway, although these attacks were foiled once again. Luckily, it couldn’t last. By fall 1995, Aum was spent as an organization. Police raids shut down its chemical and biological weapons laboratories and confiscated its small arms.”[7]

Journal of Strategy Security: “Aum Shinrikyo, an apocalyptic-millenarian cult headquartered in Japan, made headlines in March 1995 by conducting one of the most notorious terrorist attacks using an unconventional agent, during which five Aum members released sarin nerve agent in five subway lines in Tokyo, killing twelve, injuring several hundred, and forcing around six thousand people to seek medical attention. Prior to the attack, the group attempted at least ten chemical agent and ten biological agent attacks between 1990 and 1995. While Aum Shinrikyo actually engaged in the development of biological and chemical weapons, the group actively sought a nuclear weapons program. Indeed, in the early 1990s, Aum Shinrikyo moved to acquire nuclear materials and construct nuclear weapons. When the construction of nuclear weapons proved unattainable, Aum members abandoned their nuclear aspirations and focused on their chemical and biological programs. This article focuses on the evolution of Aum Shinrikyo, from its inception as a failed political entity to its eventual place in history as one of the most notorious terrorist groups, with specific attention paid to its complex engineering efforts, especially the chemical and nuclear weapons programs. (…) Secondary factors included the group’s expanding size and influence, protected status as a religious organization (preventing intervention by Japanese authorities), and a desire to eliminate perceived enemies. Aum Shinrikyo is considered by some to be the first violent non-state actor (VNSA) with the means, capabilities, intentions and finances to develop and deploy a sophisticated weapon of mass destruction.[8] (…)Following its poor showing in Japan’s 1990 parliamentary elections, Aum Shinrikyo’s agenda shifted from doomsday survival to doomsday initiation, with the goal of bringing about the apocalypse. Asahara accused the Japanese government of deliberately altering election results, and sought to overthrow the Japanese government (and other perceived enemies, including the United States) using weapons of mass destruction (WMD). Asahara demonstrated a fetish-like affinity for unconventional weapons with high destructive potential. The extent of his obsession was manifest in the fact that he wrote odes about the chemical agent sarin. (…) Asahara’s obsession with nuclear weapons formed the foundation for all of his actions related to these weapons. Not only did he try to develop his own nuclear weapons, he sought to provoke a U.S. nuclear attack on Japan in order to precipitate Armageddon, and he went about doing so by targeting a U.S. military base, rival organizations, and the general public (…) While the ultimate decision to pursue a particular weapon fell to Asahara, he exchanged ideas on weapons and strategies with the heads of Aum’s biological, chemical, and nuclear programs, often in the context of informal conversation. (…)The decision to engage in the in-house production of weapons of mass destruction came only after the group faced numerous setbacks in its attempts to acquire such weapons abroad. These setbacks, and the ultimate shift to intra-group development, will be addressed in detail within the context of a broader discussion concerning the group’s weapons programs. (…) Indeed, the group was able to attempt at least 20 attacks with biological and chemical agents prior to 1995. A trial and error approach was thus far more feasible for Aum than groups with more limited resources. Its high risk tolerance was also the result of its obsession with futuristic technologies such as WMDs, which it was prepared to pursue despite the daunting technical obstacles their development presented. Furthermore, the group risked discovery of its illicit operations by state authorities by making large-scale purchases and circumventing basic national regulations and protocols. For example, Hayakawa Kiyohide, Aum’s construction minister, and Yoshihiro Inoue, its intelligence minister, oversaw and coordinated the ill-conceived purchase of a 500-acre sheep farm in Western Australia to mine uranium and test chemical Weapons. (…) Aum Shinrikyo’s WMD pursuits would reemerge in 1992 when its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons capabilities began in earnest through the group’s international networks and activities in Russia and the United States, through which the group intended to procure information and materials. During visits to Russia, Aum leaders consulted Russian scientists in order to obtain laser and nuclear technologies. The group was also believed by some to have shown interest in purchasing fissile materials from Russia. Through its network, Aum Shinrikyo successfully recruited over 300 scientists and engineers—including employees at the Kurchatov Institute, the premier nuclear facility in Russia—who were either attracted to the apocalyptic ideology or lured with financial incentives. Aum Shinrikyo’s Russian contacts enabled group members to access black market materials and hardware. (…)Not willing to abandon its nuclear aspirations, the group attempted to lay the foundation for its own nuclear program in Australia, yet failed again. In May of 1993, a large explosion occurred near the farm in Australia that remains unexplained, but may be attributed to Aum’s nuclear program. If, indeed, the explosion was related to its nuclear program, a possible explanation for the subsequent abandonment of the farm is that Aum may have realized that nuclear technologies fell outside of their capabilities, or at least were unattainable because Asahara’s 1995 timeframe for nuclear Armageddon proved too short for group members to successfully construct a nuclear weapon. Even if unrelated to its nuclear research, Aum Shinrikyo may have reasonably left the farm in order to avoid interdiction by law enforcement authorities. As a result, the group more effectively utilized its resources by focusing on chemical attacks, which had shown the most promise to date.  The farm in Australia may have also served as a testing ground for Aum’s chemical weapons program. When Australian authorities examined the farm once Aum had abandoned it, they discovered the remains of 29 sheep and Japanese-language documentation that led the authorities to believe the reason for the deaths of the livestock was for unidentified experimentation. While the tests to identify sarin were not necessarily conclusive, as a byproduct of sarin breaking down in the environment is also related to the natural decomposition of the sheep,72 the timeline does suggest that Aum Shinrikyo had used the sheep to confirm the lethality of their chemical weapon. (…) [The] organization’s fascination with technology inspired members to pursue multiple, novel weapons programs, largely as a means of appeasing Asahara and achieving higher status within the cult. While the group’s chemical and biological weapons programs were the most well-known, it had shown interest in a myriad of technologies, including nuclear, seismological, plasma, and laser weapons as well. Despite a substantial war chest, all of these initiatives ended in failure save for the chemical weapons program, and even its successes were few. (…) Aum Shinrikyo took up complex engineering tasks concerning nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons due to its apocalyptic ideology and the Aum leadership’s obsession with high-tech and unconventional weapons. Asahara, in particular, expressed a techno-fetishist affinity towards WMDs, which led the group to pursue more advanced technological weapons. Ranking Aum members generally shared this obsession, resulting in a leadership with numerous ideas for achieving apocalyptic ends, but without efficacious plans or practical knowledge for bringing those ideas to fruition. As a cult that grew quickly and incorporated over 300 scientists and engineers, Aum Shinrikyo developed a false sense of confidence in the coming of doomsday and in the group’s ability to embark on a WMD development program.”[9]

Neal A. Clinehens, Major, USAF: “At Asahara’s direction, the cult would use WMD against Japanese society thereby provoking a catastrophic social breakdown. Asahara was convinced that, amid the resulting death and confusion, Japan would blame the United States. Asahara would then step into the confusion and lead his followers to victory. With this master plan in mind, Asahara decided to invest very large amounts of Aum Shinrikyo’s eventual $1 billion-plus financial empire into WMD research and development. The scope of Aum Shinrikyo’s WMD research is wide and impressive. Not content with standard biological, chemical or nuclear work, the cult researched and invested in other, more exotic weapons offering the potential to inflict mass casualties. Aum Shinrikyo was determined to acquire any type of functional, even if non-traditional, WMD. For example, the cult purchased a green laser worth $400,000 intending to develop a weapon capable of blinding masses of people. (…)Aum Shinrikyo never neglected its main biological, chemical and nuclear efforts. The cult acquired a relatively remote section of land near the base of Mt Fuji and constructed a complex that housed the majority of its WMD work and accompanying infrastructure. Within this compound, the cult constructed biological, chemical and nuclear research facilities complete with state-of-the-art equipment and fully staffed with technicians. Within this compound, Aum Shinrikyo established a biological toxin laboratory designed to produce, among other things, clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism. Sixteen million times more poisonous than strychnine and with 10,000 times the lethality of cobra venom, botulism had the potential to kill masses of people. Additionally, cult scientists produced anthrax spores. Both the botulism and anthrax would later be used in attacks against Tokyo. The cult studied every lethal agent they could find, even sending some members on a “humanitarian mission” to Africa with the true aim of collecting a strain of the Ebola virus for cultivation in cult laboratories. The mission failed. Overall, the biological weapons program was a partial success. (…)However, the cult was more successful in its effort to create and deliver another weapon of mass destruction: chemical agents. (…)The list of chemicals produced by the program is impressive. The cult managed to manufacture quantities of Sarin and the nerve agents VX, tabun and soman (…).As the cult poured money into biological and chemical efforts, Asahara also wanted to develop nuclear weapons. At first, Asahara ordered the development of a full-scale nuclear weapons program. When that project proved too technically challenging, the cult attempted to acquire a fully functional nuclear weapon either from sources in the former Soviet Union or from any other willing seller. Finally, when they could neither buy nor build a nuclear weapon, the cult decided to spread unprocessed uranium — mined from the its Australian sheep ranch — in downtown Tokyo. This attack was never attempted. The cult’s efforts to attain a nuclear weapon never came to the attention of any intelligence agency in any country. Neither did the acquisition and production of biological and chemical agents. Every domestic legal authority in Japan that should have detected the cult failed to do so. The cult operated with impunity while trying to acquire the means to kill millions. (…)Aum Shinrikyo had decided to destroy Japanese society in order to accelerate the coming apocalypse. Shoko Asahara became convinced that by eliminating the Japanese Diet, the equivalent of the U.S. Congress, the destruction of society would follow. Using botulinus toxin, the plan was for cult members to drive in circles around the Diet building in a modified truck and spray the toxin into the air. Biohazard suits protected the cult members in the truck. Fortunately, the attack failed. (…)In spite of this failure, Aum Shinrikyo continued to plan. The cult decided to attack world dignitaries attending the royal wedding of Prince Naruhito. During the wedding, cult scientists planned to again introduce botulinus toxin into downtown Tokyo. Modifications made to the spraying mechanism after the failed Japanese Diet attack convinced cult scientists that delivery difficulties had been solved. Asahara gave the orders to proceed. The cult rigged the improved spraying device onto a truck loaded with botulinus toxin. The plan was to drive through downtown Tokyo as near to the royal wedding as possible, spray toxin into the air and thereby kill as many people as possible. The plan was considered to be so foolproof that Asahara himself rode in the truck to witness it. The delivery system failed again. (…)The cult scientists decided to employ anthrax. They believed it to be a more reliable biological weapon because it was more stable outside the laboratory. In addition to changing agents, cult scientists also altered their delivery methods. Instead of a mobile delivery platform, such as a truck, they decided to spread anthrax spores from a stationary point. Anthrax spores would be poured into a modified steam generator located in a cult-owned building in downtown Tokyo. The anthrax-saturated steam was blown across Tokyo for four consecutive days. Aum Shinrikyo’s attack failed again. (…)After three consecutive failures with biological weapons, Asahara examined the available alternatives. Concurrent with this weapon reevaluation, the cult was also involved in legal troubles. Embroiled in a lawsuit he was sure the cult would lose, Asahara decided to try a new type of WMD against the three judges ruling in the case. He instructed his scientists to employ a chemical rather than biological agent. The chemical he decided to use was Sarin. Cult scientists reverted to a truck fitted with a spraying mechanism. The truck would be parked in a lot very close to a dormitory where the three judges lived. The cult team would release Sarin and the gas was supposed to leak into the dormitory and kill the judges as they slept. As with every other cult WMD attack to this point, it did not go according to plan. Due to a change in the wind, the Sarin was blown in the wrong direction. Instead of killing the judges, the gas killed seven other people and injured over 200 in nearby buildings. Even though this attack failed to kill the judges, it managed to make them so ill that they delayed the judgement against the cult for a number of weeks. More importantly, the cult had learned how to deploy and deliver, with a reliable degree of effectiveness, a weapon of mass destruction. They had gained confidence with Sarin and Asahara decided to use for the cult’s most famous and effective attack. The Second Successful Chemical Attack: The Tokyo Subway. (…) This time, the attack was relatively successful. The subway cars converged on the central station as scheduled. Eventually, twelve people died as a direct result of the assault. Over 5000 were injured, some receiving such severe damage to their cardiovascular system that they will ultimately die as a result of the attack. Others will survive but with lifelong effects. This attack was again motivated by Asahara’s undying conviction that he should accelerate the apocalyptic battle. He believed that the ensuing deaths and panic from the subway assault would paralyze Tokyo and the entire Japanese government. However, there was also a less spiritual motive for the attack. Aum Shinrikyo was about to get raided by the police in connection with a murder investigation. Asahara was convinced this subway attack would overwhelm the police and the murder investigation into the cult would be delayed indefinitely. (…)The police finally began to round up cult members and started a full-scale investigation into cult activities. This police action precipitated a final WMD attack by the cult. Determined to shield their leader from arrest, cult members staged another attack in the Tokyo subway system designed to keep the authorities too busy to look for Asahara. (…)Using a very simple system, the cult almost succeeded in generating and releasing enough poisonous gas to kill 20,000 people”[10]

Sara Daly, John Parachini, William Rosenau: “In 2000, the cult hacked into classified computer networks to obtain information about nuclear facilities in Russia, Ukraine, the People’s Republic of China, South Korea, and Taiwan. Working from legitimate companies Aum had established, group members were able to obtain information about a Russia-commissioned device for plutonium processing, the Monju fast-breeder reactor in Japan, and the safety system of Ukraine’s Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Japanese police also discovered that Aum software developers had been collecting information about Japan’s nuclear power program. The cult compiled information about nuclear fuel suppliers and the transportation of nuclear materials through affiliated software companies that had developed computer programs for key corporations and governmental entities in Japan. Data on companies involved in Japan’s nuclear programs and those engaged in nuclear research were included. Police also discovered background files on 75 researchers working with radioactive materials and other nuclear-related studies. Other materials found in the raids indicated that Aum members measured radioactivity levels at a cult compound in Japan in 1988.”[11]

Evidence 2: Assassinations, Kidnappings and Extortions

Richard Danzig, Marc Sageman, Terrance Leighton, Lloyd Hough, Hidemi Yuki, Rui Kotani and Zachary M. Hosford: “Tsutsumi Sakamoto [legal representative of Aum Shinrikyo] investigated the cult and discovered several cases of fraud, including the fact that Kyoto University had never tested Asahara’s blood. Sakamoto denounced Aum on a radio show. In response, Aum followers spread leaflets near his home accusing him of religious persecution. It appears, however, that Sakamoto simply wanted Aum to abandon some of its more harmful practices and to conform to those of more traditional religious orders. Hoping to reach an agreement with Aum, he invited its representatives to a meeting on the evening of October 31, 1989.  The meeting was intensely antagonistic. Sakamoto ended it by saying that he was about to air his charges in public. Asahara told Murai, Hayakawa, Satoru Hashimoto (Asahara’s bodyguard and martial arts expert), Okasaki, Niimi and Tomomasa Nakagawa that “there was no choice but to poa him,” and the senior members subsequently started planning Sakamoto’s death. (…)The group planned to make Sakamoto’s murder appear as though he died from natural causes. Nakagawa – who presumably was included in this secret mission because he had medical training, even though he had been a monk for only three months – recalls that it was the first time he heard botulinum toxin discussed. The conspirators, however, settled on killing Sakamoto during an ambush on his way home from work with an injection of potassium chloride. Murai prepared the syringe and gave it to Nakagawa, who was supposed to perform the injection.  The scheduled day of the assassination, November 3, 1989, turned out to be a holiday, so Sakamoto spent the day at home with his wife and one-year old son. The conspirators then decided to break into Sakamoto’s home in the early hours of November 4. They made such a mess of the attempt that they decided that killing all three members of the family would be necessary to avoid detection. The killings, however, prevented them from being able to conceal the deaths as natural. The Aum members gathered the remains of the victims and secretly buried them in different prefectures. When they reported back to Asahara, he was pleased. Asahara assured them that they had done the family a favor; their souls would be born again in a higher world.”[12]

Morris M: “The resulting cloud of nerve gas killed 12 people and injured as many as 5,500. The entire city was paralyzed. Hospitals overflowed. Subway stations resembled battlefields. It was the worst terror attack in Japanese history. By summer, it was clear that Aum Shinrikyo was responsible. An apocalyptic cult (…), the group had convinced its members that they needed to trigger an apocalypse as soon as possible. But the subway attack wasn’t just a random one-off. It was the culmination of years of creepy incidents involving Aum, each one scarier than the last. In 1989, Tsutsumi Sakamoto had every reason to be cheerful. His wife had just given birth to a baby boy, his legal career was taking off, and the young lawyer was making a name for himself taking on the new Aum cult in Tokyo. Then, in November, Tsutsumi and his family vanished. There was no note, no explanation, and no evidence. Japan’s police groped blindly in the dark, unsure if the Sakamotos had simply cut and run or if something darker was at work. Fast-forward to 1996. As part of the marathon series of trials following the subway gas attack, Aum member Tomomasa Nakagawa was cross-examined about the cult’s past crimes. The disappearance of the Sakamoto family came up. Nakagawa’s response was chilling. Fed up with the hotshot lawyer interfering in their business, Aum had decided to have Tsutsumi brutally murdered. (…) At 3:00 AM, they entered the house. Tsutsumi and his wife were asleep in bed. One member strangled Tsutsumi, while another kicked his wife half to death before strangling her, too. Her last words were, Please save the child, at least. Instead, the sect members located the baby and suffocated him with his bedding. They then drove the three bodies out into Japan’s remote countryside and buried them in metal drums. Although Aum was suspected of being involved, the authorities failed to investigate properly. It wasn’t the only time that the police let Aum get away with their crimes. (…) For a newly emerged cult, Aum was surprisingly sophisticated about funding itself. Members would have to pay to reach enlightenment, and special seminars costing tens of thousands of dollars were regularly held. At one point, the group even began operating its own restaurant chain and selling computers. However, by far, the most common means of funding came from extortion. At its most harmless, this involved blackmail on an industrial scale. Towns and cities across Japan would be contacted and told that Aum planned to open a compound there. They were then given the option to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep the cult away. Most of them coughed up. More harmfully, the group entered into business with the Yakuza to manufacture and help sell illegal drugs. Worst of all were the kidnappings. Cult members would be quizzed over their families’ earnings. If it turned out that they were related to someone wealthy, they would frequently be ordered to kidnap that relative. One innkeeper was taken hostage by his own daughters, tortured, and forced to hand over 60 million yen. The tactic was scarily effective. By 1995, the cult was estimated to have a net worth of around $1.5 billion. (…) In 1994, Tadahiro Hamaguchi became one of history’s most gruesome firsts. On a late-night walk through Osaka, he became possibly the first person in history to be killed by VX. A nerve agent developed by the British after World War II, VX is so deadly that it makes sarin look like laughing gas. A single drop absorbed through the skin can kill you so fast that there would be no time to inject an antidote. For a brief period in the mid-1990s, Aum used it to murder their enemies. From 1994–95, more than 10 VX assassinations were carried out by the cult, usually by injection. The one man lucky enough to survive a spray attack was hospitalized for 45 days and left in a coma. As bad as that was, it was just the start of Aum’s long list of terrifying assassinations. Others were kidnapped and hanged on Aum property, their bodies incinerated in purpose-built microwaves. One such victim was Kiyoshi Kariya, a 68-year-old man whose brother was trying to quit the group. Kariya was kidnapped, drugged, held hostage, murdered, and then finally burned in one of Aum’s incinerators. His ashes were scattered in a lake, so no trace of him would ever be found. When Aum’s compounds were finally raided after the Tokyo subway attack, police discovered that at least eight other people had met the same hideous fate. They also discovered an assassination list. Had the cult not blown their cover with the 1995 sarin attack, the number of people incinerated in Aum’s ovens would have likely been much, much higher.”[13]

Jackie Fowler: “On June 27, 1994, clouds of sarin engulfed the Kita-Fukashi district of Matsumoto (central Japan). Seven people died and hundreds were injured. Initially, a local gardener was falsely accused and was cleared only after many months of investigation. Testimony revealed Asahara ordered the attack in the vicinity of three judges set to hear a case against the group. The refrigerated trucks were equipped with spraying mechanisms and driven from Aum’s main facility to Matsumoto. This gassing successfully injured the judges. (…)
Various violent incidents followed. On March 30, 1995, there was an attempted assassination of police Chief Kunimatsu, the head of the National Police Agency, and subsequent gas attacks occurred on trains in the Tokyo-Yokohama area. In these cases there were deaths or serious injuries. (…) Asahara and 104 followers have been indicted on various charges. Asahara himself has been indicted for: murder in relation to the Tokyo sarin gas attack on March 20, 1995 (twelve dead and 5,500 injured); murder in relation to Matsumoto Nagano Prefecture sarin gas attack in June 1994 (seven killed and 600 injured); kidnapping and murder of Tsutsumi Sakamoto (Lawyer representing Aum member parents) and his wife and infant son; kidnapping and death of Kiyoshi Kariya (Tokyo notary public) in February 1995; lynching of Kotata Ochida (“’uncooperative’” Aum member) in February 1994; illegal production of various drugs. Though Asahara maintains his innocence, many followers have confessed their involvement in these crimes and have claimed they acted under Asahara’s direct orders.[14] The first attacks targeted wavering members, or those about to leave the group. Police reported thirty-three Aum followers are believed to have been killed between October 1988 and March 1995. Further police speculation includes several lynching, eight deaths from intense ascetic training, two suicides, and twenty-one missing people who are presumed dead.”

EVIDENCE 3: TORTURE, MIND CONTROL & FALSE SPIRITUALITY

Morris M: “One of Aum’s central tenets was that followers had to gain enlightenment through suffering. Although that sounds like the sort of meaningless platitude that any religious sect might come out with, Aum took it very seriously. When no suffering was forthcoming, they tortured their own followers to create it. Most famously, this involved their “thermotherapy” ritual. Followers would be dipped in scalding hot water to purify themselves, a practice that led to burns and at least one death. When physical pain wasn’t enough, the cult turned to the mental realm. Multiple initiation ceremonies involved the forced ingestion of narcotics and hallucinogens, followed by public emotional humiliation. Followers were frequently fed LSD, often without their even knowing they had taken the drug. For those who tried to escape the cult, things were even worse. Aum operated its own prisons and torture chambers, hidden inside giant shipping containers. Suspected dissidents could face all manner of brutal interrogation methods, if they weren’t simply killed outright. Yet, none of this seemed to even dent their popularity . . .   For a doomsday cult that was suspected of murder and tortured its own followers, Aum sure didn’t have any problems attracting new converts. At its height in 1995, the sect had an estimated 50,000 members, most living in Russia. This significant following translated into something tangible—power. Aum’s foothold in Russia was nothing if not terrifying. In less than half a decade, the group had managed to set up its own university in Moscow and had begun targeting disaffected students for recruitment. They even tried to set up their own company in the hopes of brainwashing the employees that would flock to them during the next economic downturn. By the mid-1990s, they were even controlling radio transmissions out of Vladivostok, broadcasting nightly television programs on Russia’s popular 2X2 channel and having their Japanese members trained for violence by Russian special forces. All of this influence paid off. The group began actively courting Russian nuclear scientists and even purchased a military attack helicopter. Money rolled in, and Aum grew increasingly bold.”[15]

Alexander E. Raevskiy: “Another reason for Aum’s popularity (especially among young Japanese) was that the founder of the cult, Shoko Asahara, understood what people needed at that moment, and used it in the promotion of his religion. Levitation and supernatural abilities were introduced in the form of manga and anime, beloved by all Japanese, so that people could quickly catch the main idea: living in society is boring, but joining Aum helps in making new friends, developing one’s skills, and reaching enlightenment. (…) Every guru should have his own legend, and Asahara created one after his trip to India in 1987. He told his disciples about a meeting with the god Shiva, that the Dalai Lama gave to him a special mission, and from now on he was guru (in Japanese – sonshi) Shoko Asahara. The Dalai Lama came to visit Japan in 1995, several months after the sarin attack. When asked about his meeting with Asahara, the Dalai Lama said that he remembered a strange Japanese man coming to visit him, but that he did not give any special mission to him. (…) [In 1988], the first death occurred in Aum: 21-year-old disciple Majima Terayuki died from a heart-attack during a 24-hour meditation session in a dark room. That death was a great psychological blow to Asahara: it meant that his religion brought people not to salvation, but to death. It became necessary to change the Aum doctrine in such a way as to justify murder, and Asahara took from Vajrayana, a branch of Tibetan Buddhism, the idea of poa. Poa means sacred killing in the name of the guru: people can be killed, if they accumulate bad karma, and in this case poa helps them to be reborn with better karma in the next life.  From 1989, every person who did wrong from Asahara’s point of view could be killed for their bad karma. Aum had planned several (both successful and unsuccessful) murders, and when in 1992 the Japanese people didn’t vote for Aum Shinrito (Aum’s political party) in the parliamentary elections, Asahara announced that society (except Aum members) was filled with bad karma and needed poa.”[16]

BARBIE LATZA NADEAU, JAKE ADELSTEIN: “At the height of its popularity Aum Shinrikyo had around 40,000 active followers who took part in bizarre rituals orchestrated by cult leader Asahara, who is partially blind. Their rites mixed elements of Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism with brainwashing to convince followers Asahara had supernatural powers. According to an article marking the anniversary of the attacks in Tokyo Weekender last year, the group’s initiation ceremonies consisted of hallucinogenic binges on LSD during which Asahara made members reject materialism by handing over their wealth to him. (…)Asahara supposedly gave followers “superhuman powers” in exchange for their material wealth. Asahara also saw himself as something of a prophet, famously predicting a third world war instigated by the United States. As details emerged of Aum Shinrikyo’s operation in the 1990s, it came to appear less a religion than a criminal enterprise, manufacturing its own line of computers and making meth-amphetamines that was sold wholesale to the Yamaguchi-gumi Goto-Gumi, a faction of Japan’s largest yakuza, or organized crime, group.”[17]

Brendan Cole: “A 2011 report carried out by the US-based Center for a New American Security (CNAS) reported how Matsumoto became an acupuncturist in the city of Kumamoto, but moved to Tokyo in 1977 to further his education. He developed an interest in New Age religions and turned to yoga, mysticism, Buddhist texts and the writings of Nostradamus. He opened a yoga school in Tokyo in 1984 called Aum Inc where he lectured how he was a source of spiritual power. By 1985, he would make public pronouncements that he was a sacred warrior charged with saving the world and how he would restore “original Buddhism” to the world. He changed the group’s name to Aum Shinsen no Kai which means “Aum Mountain Wizards”. CNAS reported how Matsumoto would use the theme of Armageddon to urge people to join his organisation which he said needed to acquire at least 30,000 members. In July 1987, he changed the name again, this time to Aum Shinrikyo (Aum Teaching of Truth) and he himself took on the moniker of Shoko Asahara. What does it believe? The focal point of the group is its reverence for Shoko Asahara who claims he is the first enlightened one since Buddha, although their beliefs are a hotchpotch of musings from Hinduism and Buddhism with a few apocalyptic Christian prophecies thrown in. His claim that only his acolytes would survive the apocalypse which he predicted would occur in 1996 or between 1999 and 2003 attracted many who were young smart university graduates, often from well-to-do families looking for meaning in life. The Council on Foreign Relations stated he claimed the US would be behind the end of the world by starting World War 3 with Japan. (…) Sarin is a nerve agent developed by Nazi scientists in the 1930s and is said to be 500 times more toxic than cyanide gas. On 20 March 1995, cult members put a liquid form of sarin into packages that resembled lunch boxes. They were then placed on five cars that converged at Kasumigaseki station, which is near government offices. The Japan Times reported Asahara as giving the reason for the attack as being a “holy attempt to elevate the doomed souls of this world to a higher spiritual stage”. They punctured the packages with umbrellas, leaving commuters gasping on the ground with blood pouring from their noses and mouths. (…)  Prosecutors believe that the cult has been actively recruiting new members and soliciting donations in Russia, where it already has an estimated 30,000 members.”[18]

BBC: “Aum Shinrikyo is designated as a terrorist organisation in the US and many other countries, but Aleph and Hikari no Wa are both legal in Japan, albeit designated as “dangerous religions” subject to heightened surveillance.”[19]

Jackie Fowler: “Asahara claimed that tests conducted at Kyoto University revealed his blood contained unique DNA. This “finding” constituted the blood initiation that was believed to enhance “spiritual power enhancement.” No such tests were run. (…) In July 1989, Asahara professed political action was necessary to save the world and hence the Shinrito (“Supreme Truth party“) political party emerged. Their purpose was to publicize Aum’s teachings, offer salvation to a wider audience, and provide Aum with access to publicity (means to aforementioned ends). All twenty five candidates from the party lost, and because they had truly expected to win, this served a great blow. The election led to more legal problems as accusations arose that several hundred followers falsified their legal residence so they could vote within Asahara’s constituency. (…) This period marked a major shift in Aum ideology. A group that initially sought to prevent an apocalypse now realized a new goal; they had to limit the number of deaths through religious activities and preparations (Mullins: 316). They could no longer save the world but needed to protect themselves. (…)  In the summer of 1994, Aum established its own “government” in opposition to the Japanese government (Reader: 81). Similar in organization to that of the Japanese nation, Aum’s governmental structure promoted Asahara’s personal “imperial aspirations”. (…) Aum Shinrikyo has no specific sacred text. Asahara has published a number of works, and most are drawn from his sermons. (…) as 1995 approached, his sermons and publications had a stronger Apocalyptic focus drawn from Christian thought, specifically Revelation. (…) Under the leadership of Fumihiro JoyuAum Shinrikyo is now seeking to regroup and rebuild. In an effort to change its image, Aum, has changed its name to Aleph, (…) It is not clear just how much distance the renewed Aleph has placed between itself and Shoko Asahara. They have not renounced the founding leader Asahara. In an interview with the New York Times Joyu stated Just like you wouldn’t stop your connection with physical fathers and mothers who commit a crime, we will not sever our connection with our spiritual father. (…) Full of Hindu motifs and practices, the primary deity in Aum is Shiva, the god of destruction. This deity embodies Aum’s main focus, the creation and destruction of the universe. (…) Asahara’s interest in the Book of Revelation and Prophecy of Nostradamus is reflected in his predictions for 1999. He initially taught that members must work to transfer evil energy into positive energy and avoid mass destruction via nuclear war. To be specific, 30,000 had to achieve liberation through Asahara’s teachings to save the world from such a fate. His theory of prevention shifted dramatically, and by 1990 he focused on mere survival (Mullins: 316). (…)  Richard Young, through his connections with a young member, was able to attend a sermon in the early 1990’s. (…) The problem, he says, was that “[Asahara] became so obsessed with what was wrong with Japan that he lost confidence even in the power of Buddhism” (Young: 235).[20] His early focus on the decay of spirituality and denounced materialism faded into the background and Aum’s leader failed to grasp the ethical fundamentals of Buddhism. (…) He failed to emphasize the importance of ethical training and a life of virtue. (…) Asahara focused on ascetic practice (discipline) and yogic technique (mind over body empowerment) (Young: 237). Asahara stressed isolation as crucial in serious training as the impure outside world only contaminated members — tight bonds kept all those involved pure (Young: 241). Young states this isolationism and apocalyptism is nothing more than a “symbolic projection” of Asahara’s anxiety and vulnerability of his achievements in a hostile world (Young: 241). The leader himself was a guru with a very nasty persecution complex and delusory notions of grandeur (Young: 244). He convinced his followers that such solitude was for their own welfare, and used drugs to keep them docile (Young: 242). The Master was more of a controller than a guide, as he used his influential powers to dominate Aum members. The traditional Indian guru would place the needs of his followers before his own (Young: 243). His constant creation of more complicated levels of ranking and definitions of enlightenment suggests that Asahara created such obstacles out of fear his followers would surpass him in their dedication and practice (Young: 243). Aum Shinrikyo’s belief system began as a mixture of traditional religious thought but continuously shifted towards a more apocalyptic movement.”

Neal A. Clinehens, Major, USAF: “This research project examines the Japanese religious cult Aum Shinrikyo and its attacks against Japanese citizens using chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The cult’s attacks demonstrate that hostile groups are willing to strike their host country and cause harm to their fellow citizens. (…)Aum Shinrikyo not only harmed its own members, it reached out and affected all of Japanese society. The cults aggressive mentality can be traced to the founder — Shoko Asahara. In the mid-1980’s, Asahara, who owned a massage and acupuncture clinic in Tokyo, developed a spiritual message based on attainment of total spiritual consciousness. Asahara based his spiritual authority on his having achieved total enlightenment — “holy vibration—while meditating in the Himalayas. This total enlightenment enabled him to have a series of visions. Most of these revelations were benign and involved ways that he could help others also attain total enlightenment. However, some of the visions had other meanings. Asahara’s other visions were a series of apocalyptic revelations that convinced him he would lead God’s army to victory against the United States in an end-of-the-world battle. Based on his authority of total enlightenment, his apocalyptic visions and a lifelong desire for power, Asahara began an effort to increase cult membership. Aum Shinrikyo grew into a cult of tens of thousands who believed Asahara would show them the key to happiness. He recruited members from Japanese society by emphasizing the positive aspects of his spiritual message. (…)  Laymember commitments ran from the merely interested to the fanatical. Many of the more fanatical laymembers decided to move into cult compounds. When they did, Asahara demanded they abandon all ties with the outside world, including communication with their families. Within the compounds, laymembers lived under regimented, “spiritually cleansing” conditions. Subjected to physical and psychological torture, punished members provided unskilled labor and kept the cult working on a routine, inexpensive basis. More importantly, they did not interact with outsiders and provided unquestioning physical labor that supported the cult’s extensive WMD construction and production programs. Laymembers were supervised by the second category of cult members, the true-believers. (…)From the ranks of the technical and scientific true-believers, Asahara chose a select few to help him implement an important decision he had kept secret from other cult members. In the late 1980’s, he had decided to somehow hasten the apocalyptic battle he had foreseen in his visions. Asahara chose three scientists to supervise the effort to help speed the arrival of his apocalypse. (…)The three were Hideo Murai, an astrophysicist who headed Aum Shinrikyo’s so-called Science and Technology Ministry, Seiichi Endo, who held a Ph.D. in molecular biology and Masami Tsuchiya, the cult’s top chemist. This trio enthusiastically agreed with Asahara’s goal of hastening the end of the world. Together, they possessed the technical knowledge suited for the production and use of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons. (…)Aum Shinrikyo was a cult of personality. (…) Without internal checks and balances, and the added element of spirituality, the result may be a circular pattern of reinforcing behavior between the leader and followers that can become more bizarre at every turn. (…)Aum Shinrikyo was not motivated by politics. The cult’s motivating ideas were founded in religion. Some analysts have contended that the cult was a political organization because it planned to take over Japan after the apocalyptic battle with the United States. This conclusion misses the crucial point about the cult. Aum Shinrikyo was a religious cult with aspirations to power, but it was never defined by political thought. (…)Even though the outcome of Aum Shinrikyo’s WMD efforts would have had political ramifications, the cult’s driving motives and goals were religious, not political. (…) the cult was independent. Aum Shinrikyo’s only long term, interactive relationship with another group was its association with the Yakuza, the Japanese Mafia, and these dealings never involved WMD. Instead, the cult labs produced illegal drugs and sold them to the Yakuza to get cash, which leads us to another point. Aum Shinrikyo was a self-financed organization. The cult gathered huge amounts of money though its own initiative to conduct extensive WMD research and development.”[21]

Tommy Kullberg: “The Tokyo District Court ordered Aum Shinrikyo to disband as a religious cooperation and the Japanese government attempted to apply the Antisubversive Activities Law, which is a process that continues today. Today, many of the Aum leaders have been sentenced to death due to their religious activities. The Tokyo District Court has taken the matter of Aum seriously. (…) Destructive cults also violate human rights by abusive techniques or unethical mind control. (…) Kullberg considers that some cults can directly tell its members to cut his or her relations with family members or from those who have no interest in joining their organization. Aum Shinrikyo recommended their members to disband all contact with their relatives, who did not have any interest in joining Aum (…) Even though we tend to focus on physical damages, these are not always the issues of biggest concern for a victim in a cult. Many former members in destructive cults have described their involvement as followed: Spiritual rape was more painful in my cult than sexual and physical abuse. (…) In Lifton’s criteria for mind control there is, mystical manipulation, where people who are converted into cults strive to work for a higher purpose. Kullberg states that some activities in cults can be service-work that is against the law, such as producing the sarin gas or M-16 gun rifles in Aum Shinrikyo. Why members in Aum did these activities could be since, they were told that they would reach a higher spiritual level by participating in these activities. ”[22]

Evidence 4: Attacks against Buddhism

Tommy Kullberg: “Asahara called Ikeda who is the leader of Soka Gakkai (Buddhism), the sixth devil, who brainwashed their members. (…)  Asahara said, when Aum was accused of brainwashing his members: “Japanese people are already brainwashed by the media, our brainwashing is the best, go and brainwash one after another.” (…) In Russia, an Orthodox priest had quite an odd method to rescue members in Aum. He started taking Yoga lessons from Aum and started to have discussion groups with their leaders. He proved to members in Aum how little the leaders knew about Buddhism and Christianity, thus gained so much respect that 50 members decided to leave. He became a threat for leaders in Aum and they tried to therefore kidnap him but failed. (…) Therefore problems may arise if cult members would hear religions’ original teachings as the case above in Aum Shinrikyo. (…) In Aum Shinrikyo, Asahara had the absolute power, since he was said to be God. (…) Asahara was not satisfied just being a sonshinn (a guru in Japanese). He additionally claimed to be Shiva, Buddha and the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.”[23]

Richard Danzig, Marc Sageman, Terrance Leighton, Lloyd Hough, Hidemi Yuki, Rui Kotani and Zachary M. Hosford: [November 18, 1993 Sarin attack against Daisaku Ikeda (botulinum at the same time) ~December 20, 1993 Sarin attack against Daisaku Ikeda] “By mid-November 1993, Tsuchiya managed to produce 600 grams of sarin, and by December 1993, he accumulated three kilograms with a purity of approximately 90 percent. Although Tsuchiya states that he did not know how this material was used, Nakagawa says that it was used in an attack on November 18 against Daisaku Ikeda, the leader of Soka Gakkai (Buddhism) – a popular religious competitor of Aum. The attack was ineffectual, but Aum made another attempt about 30 days later using a truck to disperse the sarin (…). In a letter to the authors of this report, Nakagawa described what ensued: In December 1993, Takizawa and several workers customized a truck ([two ton,] with cloth hood) into one for sarin evaporation by order of Murai.”[24]

Resolution on Antonio Provolo Institute

CASE 32-2017: NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI

Resolution on Antonio Provolo Institute

September 17, 2018

The International Buddhist Ethics Committee and Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights,

Recalling the principles of Buddhist Law and the International Human Rights Law, such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the UN and the Buddhist Convention on Human Rights adopted by the United Buddhist Nations Organization;

Considering that the National Ecclesiastical Tribunal & Interdiocesan Tribunal of Buenos Aires together with the priest Julio César Grassi have already been previously sentenced Responsible for the serious crimes of Violation of the Human Right to Justice, Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity, Corruption, and Cover-up of Sexual Abuse and Pedophilia;

Aware that the current Pope Francis I actively participated in these crimes when he was known by the name of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio;

Greatly concerned about the cover-up and total public support of Pope Francis I for pedophile priests and sexual abusers, as evidenced by the cases of Priest Grassi from Argentina, Bishop Barros from Chile and Cardinal McCarrick from USA;

Taking into consideration that Archbishop Vigano has publicly requested Pope Francis I to resign for having covered up Cardinal McCarrick’s sexual abuses;

Examining the fact that after the scandalous Grassi Case, the Catholic Church continued committing the crime of covering up several pedophile priests and sexual abusers, not judging them neither sanctioning them, as is the Case with the Antonio Provolo Institute in Luján de Cuyo, where not only was allowed that pedophile priests of Italy have impunity in that country, as is the case with the priest Nicola Corradi, but also was allowed that their abuses continue against deaf children in Argentina, because instead of expelling these priests for their crimes they were simply relocated to another country, this being a pattern of cover-up and complicity that the Vatican State has historically repeated in almost all countries of the world;

Deploring the fact that at the Antonio Provolo Institute in Luján de Cuyo there have been more than 20 children who were sexually abused by priests, while at the headquarters in Verona (Italy) this Catholic institute has been involved in sexual abuses of more than 60 deaf children;

Showing dismay at the fact that, in Italy, the Priest Nicola Corradi would have been assisted by another 24 priests in his crimes against childhood during a period of more than 30 years, systematically abusing deaf children from the Italian headquarters of the Provolo Institute, where they chose children with communication difficulties, such as deaf and hearing impaired children as young as 5 years old;

Reaffirming that Priest Corradi also had collaborators in his violations against under age children in Argentina, as is the case of Priest Horacio Corbacho and Nun Kosaka;

Denouncing that at least since 2009 the Vatican State had full knowledge of the sexual abuses of Priest Corradi in Italy, since his name had emerged during an internal investigation, although the high ecclesiastical hierarchies decided to continue keeping him in charge of under age children in Argentina, by not judging him nor sanctioning him, even though the Vatican knew perfectly well that this individual would continue committing his crimes against childhood in another country;

Disapproving the fact that since 2014 Pope Francis I was receiving testimonies from the Italian victims of the pedophile priest Nicola Corradi, where he was warned that Corradi was in Argentina, but yet Pope Francis I decided to ignore these allegations, by covering up this criminal priest in order to continue exercising the priesthood and pedophilia in Argentina;

Agreeing with Anne Barrett Doyle, co-director of the Bishop Accountability organization, about promises of zero tolerance made by Pope Francis I certainly seem void after analyzing how he himself covered up the abuses of Priest Corradi;

Noting that this cover-up of sexual abuses of children shows a systematic and widespread plan, at the same time that it violates the rights to justice, to reparation and to the Truth of the victims, who not only suffered the trauma of rape but also the trauma of impunity and forgetfulness on the part of the Vatican;

Coinciding with the Argentine Prosecutor Alejandro Gulle, who confirmed that there was a cover up by the high ecclesiastical hierarchies, at the same time that he claimed that they sent the wolf to take care of the sheep, and even with long sentences of imprisonment the spiritual damage suffered by these children could never be compensated;

Reminding that only after press revealed the events and the Argentine justice arrested Priest Corradi and his accomplices, Pope Francis I decided to appoint canonical investigators in the case, although for years he refused to investigate and preferred to guarantee full impunity for the pedophile priests;

Solemnly states that Buddhism will always criticize any abusive practice.

  1. Expresses that the teachings of Master Jesus of Nazareth lead to compassionate love and never to exploitation and the covering-up of abuses.
  2. Deplores the fact that since 2002 there have been more than 60 Catholic priests denounced for sexual abuse in Argentina, and that only 3 of them would have been sanctioned with expulsion as members of the Catholic Church.
  3. Declares that the National Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Argentina and all its members have been responsible for having committed Crimes against Childhood.
  4. Ethically and spiritually penalizes Pope Francis I for having kept an Immoral Leadership.
  5. Appeals to all members of Catholicism never to follow the path of abuse and covering-up that are a source of Evil in the world.

Always with a reconciling (maitri) spirit,

H.E. Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

Legal Act on Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano

CASE 32-2017: NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI

Act on Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano

On September 2, 2018, an Act of International Repudiation to Pope Francis I is made, due to the testimony of August 22, 2018 of Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, former Apostolic Nuncio, who after analyzing the crisis of sexual abuse of Bishops in the US, Chile and Australia, asked for the resignation of Pope Francis I as head of the Vatican for having covered up and kept complicit silence since June 2013 in the face of the sexual abuses of Cardinal McCarrick, ignoring the for-life sanctions previously carried out by Pope Benedict XVI. Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, former ambassador of the Vatican in the USA, confirmed that on June 23, 2013 he himself informed Pope Francis I and the high ecclesiastical hierarchies about the sexual abuses of Cardinal Theodore McCarrick that corrupted generations of seminarians and priests, and they were immoral and abominable behaviors worthy of exemplary sanctions, although the maximum Catholic leader decided to cover up the accusations and never responded to the complaints, only taking tenuous actions to safeguard his media image when the complaints of pedophilia went public in the media. Both the Vatican and Pope Francis I refused to comment on the denunciation made by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, who not only requested the resignation of Pope Francis I, but also accused the highest ecclesiastical hierarchy, among whom are included Cardinals Angelo Sodano, Tarcisio Bertone, Pietro Parolin, William Levada, Marc Ouellet, Lorenzo Baldisseri, Leonardo Sandri, Fernando Feloni, Angelo Becciu, Giovanni Lajolo, Dominique Mamberti, Donald Wuerl, Kevin Farrell, Sean O’Malley and Rodriguez Maradiaga, the archbishops Ilson de Jesus Montanari and John Myers, and also the bishop Paul Bootkoski, for having sectarian and mafia attitudes, cover up and corruption.

Therefore, despite the fact that Pope Francis I himself has described the sexual abuses of priests as disgusting crimes and as a failure of the Church, this undoubtedly constitutes an act of demagogy, as the very popes and heads of the Vatican have been the maximum ones in covering up sexual abuses around the world. In fact, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has already previously sentenced the NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL & INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES as Responsible for Violation of the Human Right to Justice, Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity for having supported and covered up the sexual crimes of Priest Julio César Grassi, recalling that during these crimes the Ecclesiastical Tribunal was led by Pope Francis I. This background of cover-up and corruption shows that the denunciations made by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano would be totally plausible, demonstrating the existence of a systematic pattern of criminality on the part of Pope Francis I and his advisers.

In conclusion, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights agrees with Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano that in the McCarrick Case the Pope Francis I not only has not opposed evil but he has been associated with someone deeply corrupted to carry out evil, following the advice of a perverse and by multiplying his evil, supporting bad pastors in their action of destruction of the Church.

Always with spirit of reconciliation (maitri),

Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

NOTIFICATION to the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura

CASE  32-2017:  NATIONAL  ECCLESIASTICAL  TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN  TRIBUNAL  OF  BUENOS  AIRES & PRIEST JULIO  CESAR  GRASSI

NOTIFICATION to the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura

On December 05, 2017, the International Buddhist Ethics Committee & Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights is communicating with His Eminence Monsignor Dominique Mamberti of the Supremum Tribunal Signaturae Apostolicae (Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura), as a result of the Judgment that has been made against the National Ecclesiastical Tribunal (Argentina) & Interdiocesan Tribunal of Buenos Aires for the crimes of Violation of the Human Right to Justice, Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity, which was sentenced from the shows of public support that has been made toward the pedophile priest Julio Cesar Grassi, failing to fulfill the duty of providing justice to the victims and simultaneously maintaining the ethical purity of the priesthood. Despite the fact that the Argentine State judged Grassi as guilty of pedophilia, the Catholic Church has defended him for several years and has never even decided to annul his condition as a priest. This not only violates human rights, but also breaks the Spirituality founded by Jesus of Nazareth.

The International Buddhist Ethics Committee & Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights clearly considers that the Vatican State should immediately judge and sentence Grassi, removing his condition of priest, which may begin to amend the framework of ecclesiastical impunity that has been enjoyed by this criminal and false priest. In addition, the International Buddhist Ethics Committee & Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights asks the Catholic Church to publicly apologize to the victims of Julio Cesar Grassi, who have suffered persecution and threats for several years. In case of continuing to maintain the rank of priest to said pedophile, the Vatican would be committing an explicit complicity with such crimes.

With a spirit of Reconciliation (Maitri),

H.E. Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

President and Spiritual Judge of the International Buddhist Ethics Committee & Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights

Judgment on NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL

Case No. 32/2017: NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI

ETHICAL JUDGMENT

Dear Prosecutor, Public Defender, Ambassador and Jury Members of the International Buddhist Ethics Committee (IBEC) and Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights (BTHR), regarding the Case 32-2017 against “NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES AND PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI”, on October 23, 2017, it is hereby recorded that the trial has been concluded to analyze the violation of Human Rights and of Buddhist Ethics carried out by the accused. This Case has been carried out as a result of the “Argentina Case”.

After the analysis of the presentation of the Case and the validation of evidence, it has proceeded with the voting of 7 members of the Jury, confirming that all of them voted that the “NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI” is “Responsible” for the serious crimes of Violation of the Human Right to Justice, Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity. In addition to the fact that “JULIO CESAR GRASSI” has been condemned by the Argentine justice for the crimes of aggravated sexual abuse of minors, he has also participated in acts of corruption by illegitimately appropriating of the economic funds for the charitable activities of children to whom he were supposed to take care of. This shows that Grassi is a False Priest, being a fraudster who illegitimately usurps the tradition of Spirituality founded by Master Jesus of Nazareth, deceiving lots of people through the possession of spiritual status in order to commit crimes. In this way, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights declares the priesthood of Grassi as spurious, immoral and illegal, since possessing the rank of priest currently gives ethical endorsement to this criminal who has participated in terrible crimes. Thus, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has implemented the jurisprudence used in the “Ricardo Javier Ocampo Case”, declaring the accused Grassi as a False Priest, which is equivalent to a de facto expulsion in the field of Spirituality.

On the other hand, the fact that Ecclesiastical Tribunals have not expelled Grassi from priesthood could not only imply an act of Complicity, but it would also demonstrate an absolute betrayal of the spiritual teachings of Master Jesus. Because the Spiritual Ethics of Master Jesus is essentially Buddhist, since he can even be perfectly recognized as an Awakened One (Buddha), therefore the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has full jurisdiction to determine who are following and who are betraying the teachings of Christian Spirituality, which is very different from the network of Catholic State Power.

The Maitriyana Community offers Grassi and the Catholic community this Ethical Judgment as a way of teaching on Righteous and Adequate Spirituality (Samma-Sasana), so that they are able to quickly abandon their immoral behavior. If the Ecclesiastical Tribunals quickly learn from this Ethical Judgment and annuls the priesthood of Julio César Grassi, then the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights will consider that there has been a reconciling solution, having been fulfilled the Purpose of the teaching of all the Awakened Beings): do good, avoid evil and purify the mind. Even, if there is a possible future rectification or purification regarding Grassi‘s situation, then the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights could also offer unconditional ethical guidance for Catholic Ecclesiastical Justice to operate properly and stop betraying the spiritual teachings of Master Jesus. Because of the fact that within Catholicism there have been some Free and Enlightened Beings, such as great mystics or theologians who have contributed to world peace and social justice, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights strongly differentiates Christian Spirituality from the Vatican State, because while Spirituality is linked to the mystical teaching of a Path of Love, Self-sacrifice, Awakening and Salvation, instead the State is linked to manipulation of political, economic, cultural and environmental Power. In this sense, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights makes clear that the true reason by which thousands of Catholic priests have participated in multiple cases of sexual abuse in a systematic and widespread way should not be due to celibacy but rather to the absence of Mysticism on the part of the majority of its representatives, having lost the direct contact with the teachings of the Savior One (Christ). Instead, unlike the pedophile priests and the conspirational priests, this lack of Spirituality is not seen when analyzing thoughts and behaviors of great spiritual masters such as Meister Eckhart, Francis of Assisi, Teilhard de Chardin, Thomas Merton and Desmond Tutu.

The Buddhist Law states that Master Jesus was not any type of god, but rather was a human being who reached the Cure (Nirvana) of suffering, becoming a Free and Enlightened Being (Arhat-Bodhisattva) who devoted his existence to the teaching of a Path of spiritual life based on compassionate wisdom (karuna-prajna). This mystical transformation was not a new event in history, but is part of a long tradition, since before Master Jesus there were many Awakened Ones (Buddhas) who taught the way how to live righteously and properly. The apprentice who genuinely follows the teachings of Master Jesus should not be attached to any kind of belief, but he or she must open mind and heart to the mystical transmission of the peak knowledge (satori), which is the realization of Truth through the ethical transformation that displaces the domain of Ego and redirects the individual to a higher and amplified state of consciousness (H-ASC). One of the practices to achieve this state of Liberation is precisely the imitation of Master Jesus’ thoughts, words and acts, which is a mystical process beyond the intellectual and the religious. The Maitriyana confirms that the teachings of Mystical Christianity, such as those found in the Gnostic tradition, do not point to a religious and metaphysical Salvation but to a Spiritual Awakening (Bodhi), by teaching the apprentice to open eyes and illuminate the darkness of ignorance, being a revolutionary process before which the individual becomes one with his/her spiritual master, becoming esoterically and acquiring the same state of consciousness that Master Jesus had. This direct transmission outside the scriptures is something almost totally absent in Catholicism, which in a systematic and widespread way has blocked and has considered as heretical to every mystical and libertarian emergence within its movement. In fact, if Catholic priests would daily practice mystical meditation, then they would have a great possibility of having a high degree of ethical purification, which obviously does not happen. Precisely, in order to become evolved beings and to spiritually guide humankind, every priest should practice contemplation, compassionate wisdom and ethics, because without these practices he will be destined to be a fraud, filling his heart with greed, hatred and deceit. Unlike mystics like Master Eckhart, priests often believe in the divine instead of experiencing it as the very heart of their Being. This lack of direct contact with the mystical experience is the true original cause of the criminal acts usually committed by priests, who perceive reality through the limited and distorted perspective of Ego instead of experiencing the Real through mystic meditation. In this way, the Buddhist Law confirms that if the priest is not emptied of all selfishness, dualism and consumerism, then he will be doomed to commit such terrible crimes as pedophilia. On the other hand, if priests follow the teachings of spiritual masters such as Gautama, Jesus, and Eckhart, then they will be able to achieve self-realization and self-transcendence in the here and now. This Liberation-in-the-world is the Path of Detachment, which is the source of supreme happiness according to Gautama, Jesus and Eckhart. For this reason, the Maitriyana considers that without this compassionate wisdom a priest is nothing. Detachment is fundamental in spiritual and mystical life, which confronts adversities with equanimity, calm, love, empathy and humility. This allows the individual to be able to comprehend reality as it is without distracting and getting attached to stimuli. The virtue of detachment is the key for accessing the Truth, by overcoming Ego and its traits of arrogance and vanity that hinder the Cure (Nirvana) of suffering. In fact, Master Eckhart himself considered that Detachment is the most perfect expression of the Divine, which shows that the religious practices of belief and prayer are totally superficial before the mystical vision of Spirituality, demonstrating that religiosity lacks suitable means to experience the Divine. Thus, if the priest manages to move forward on the path of life of mystical meditation, experiencing the Spiritual Power of Detachment and Liberation, he can be a beacon of Goodness and Awakening (Bodhi) for all his followers, helping them to empty themselves or become poor of Ego and simultaneously be full of peak knowledge (satori). When the apprentice manages to attain this Being Nothing his mind and heart are opened to the divine enlightenment that is intrinsic to pure and noble life, always helping the poor and oppressed while peacefully fighting against the powerful. The Buddhist Law considers detachment as the radical gap between religion and spirituality, as well as the gap between the priest and the spiritual master. Indeed, the Free and Enlightened Beings (Arhats-Bodhisattvas) promote the disidentification of what is mundane, since attachment, aversion and unconsciousness are the main source of suffering. At the same time, the Awakened and Savior Beings (Buddhas-Christs) promote the re-identification of the sacred, since detachment, love and knowledge are the main source of true and eternal happiness. If the priest practices the Path of spiritual life, he can access this state of fullness and become a Prophet of peace, justice, wisdom and health. However, if he does not practice these qualities he will only be a force of evil, illusion and deception, leading people to violence, ignorance and stupidity rather than contributing to a better world. The Maitriyana teaches that if a priest wishes to follow the spiritual discipline taught by Master Jesus then he have to experience the unity and reconciliation (maitri) that is attained with the Awakening (Bodhi) of the Truth that transcends the ordinary mind. The Awakened and Savior Beings (Buddhas-Christs) have cultivated this kind of compassionate wisdom (karuna-prajna) for millennia, and it is crucial for the survival and evolution of humankind. Spiritual masters such as Gautama, Jesus, and Eckhart show that if the priest practices the contemplative life correctly then he cannot only unite with the divine or sacred but can also guide others toward that Salvation or Liberation, since the Kingdom of Righteousness resides potentially within each sentient being. But in order to transform this world into a Pure Earth the priest must carefully practice and teach meditation, compassionate wisdom and ethics. Without these spiritual practices, priests become criminals, and churches become mafias. Although it may seem that Maitriyana is extremely revolutionary, it does nothing more than follow and fulfill the teachings of the great spiritual masters of history, who were incarnations of divine love throughout the whole world. In this sense, priests must stop transmitting mythological lies and metaphysical deceptions, which are genuine heresies. By emptying themselves from all illusion, opening their minds and hearts to the Truth, the priests will be able to teach humanity to enjoy life in spite of its imperfection, impermanence and insubstantiality. The world does not need criminal priests, but needs Free and Enlightened Beings (Arhats-Bodhisattvas), who are the true future of humankind.

The Buddhist Law states that to build a better world, it is necessary to achieve peace and social justice, generating economic and legal policies that help people in a systematic and widespread way. Thus, the Maitriyana is a paradigm shift for the global justice system, carrying out a program of Ethics and Human Rights that promotes a profound transformation of international justice. However, in order to carry out this structural reform, the suffering of all sentient beings must be addressed with Mindfulness, which is something that States never do, since for most of the rulers all individuals are nothing but mere numbers. This lack of empathy and altruism is the reason by which States fail to combat arms trafficking, corruption, prostitution, cover-up and drug trafficking. In this sense, spiritual masters can help Justice to improve, especially given the fact that Buddhist Law has 2600 years of experience on which is the right and proper Path for the development and evolution of societies. For this reason, Maitriyana proposes four fundamental pillars for the reform: restorative justice, distributive justice, pedagogical justice and environmental justice. This means that working hard for improving the justice system would not imply incorporating technology into procedures, as rulers mistakenly consider, but rather that the true paradigm shift means starting to develop a type of justice that works with a new and humanitarian logic in order to help all the people. This revolution of socially engaged justice, though it is 2600 years old, remains to be fundamental to the transformation of the contemporary world, which is obsessed with technology rather than being identified with the incorporation of compassionate wisdom (karuna-prajna).

In the contemporary world there is discontent and strong demand from all societies for changes in the justice system, especially in the face of flaws in the functioning of International Law. Because most of judicial investigations do not clarify the facts, in addition to the fact that judges often lack honesty and impartiality, the Buddhist Law acquires huge public transcendence to carry out investigations that satisfy the requirements of Truth. In the absence of credible legal institutions, the Maitriyana guarantees that the voice of justice will not be oppressed within the bureaucratic systems of impunity. For the Buddhist Law, it is essential to reformulate the entire judicial functioning of States, seeking to overcome their problems and failures, such as the lack of transparency and altruism, in order to provide access to justice for humble and oppressed populations. The government of Maitriyana Community has responded to the call for Peace, Justice, Truth and Harmony in the world, seeking an integrative legal reform through the ancient experience of the Restorative Tribal Law and also through the contemporary knowledge of International Human Rights Law. However, working for the structural reform of global justice requires the courage to denounce the rich and powerful ones who control the international status quo, by functioning as an autonomous and supraconstitutional body aimed at the critical supervision of worldwide judges who incur in bad behavior. This revolutionary work must be composed of four fundamental pillars: world peace, social justice, free education and ecological health. Therefore, the Buddhist Law demonstrates that the transformation of justice is a commitment that must go beyond the mere improvement of the penal system, undertaking the challenge of making a true democratic change of the whole civilization. Only the act of guiding the peoples toward Justice will achieve the goal of saving humankind.

In conclusion, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights has the Purpose (Dharma) to guide humanity through True Spirituality, which implies a direct criticism of religions that support a distorted view of Spirituality. Therefore, it is established that “NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESIAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI” have violated the teachings of Master Jesus by means of carrying out serious crimes, such as the lack of fulfillment of justice before sexual abuse and corruption, which is Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity that de facto nullifies the ethical status of Priest. Undoubtedly, Priests must be spiritual masters who guide individuals and organizations toward Liberation, and they should never be individuals who commit crimes and attack Spirituality. The Salvation of the world is the Supreme Great Purpose (Maha-Dharma) of the Awakened Ones (Buddhas), so this goal should never be associated with criminals, because otherwise humanity would lose hope in a Pure Earth or Kingdom of Righteousness. Only through practicing the Path of True Spirituality, as practiced by many Christian mystics and theologians of history, then the members of Catholicism will be worthy of the rank of True Priest and will be genuine heirs to the teachings of Master Jesus. In this way, the Case on “NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI” is a great teaching for Catholicism to be purified through the Force of Truth, instead of the predominance of violence, injustice, deceit and disease that violate the intrinsic dignity of sentient beings.

The Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights records that Priest Jorge Bergoglio (now known as Pope Francis I) was the person in charge of handling the NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL & INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES at the time when the Priest Grassi was sentenced in the Argentine justice system for the crime of aggravated sexual abuse. This breach of the divine duty of justice by the highest spheres of Vatican power has tremendous implications that will never go unpunished before the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights.

Following the Path of Master Gautama, who developed a Path of Righteous and Adequate Spirituality (Samma-Sasana-marga) that influenced the Essene communities as well as Master Jesus himself, the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights supervises that religions are ethical, never betraying the commitment to Justice and Compassionate Wisdom which is the true expression of the divine, so that the “NATIONAL ECCLESIASTICAL TRIBUNAL, INTERDIOCESAN TRIBUNAL OF BUENOS AIRES & PRIEST JULIO CESAR GRASSI”  has therefore been sentenced as “Responsible” for Violation of Human Right to Justice, Spiritual Fraud and False Christianity.

With spirit of reconciliation (maitri),

Master Maitreya Samyaksambuddha

President and Spiritual Judge of the Buddhist Tribunal on Human Rights
